K.P. Bath was just sentenced to 6 years in prison for possessing graphic and violent sexual images of very young children.

Author convicted in federal court as a child pornographer. Burn the book if you have it, and take it off Amazon!

No! No! No! Do not buy this book - If you want to support a sick, sick author - Go ahead.

Strait from the author himself:
Bath wrote, "I'm glad there are molesters out there" because they supplied images of children being sexually violated by adults.

In an online chat with another accused child porn collector, Bath wrote, "I wish a 9 yr old was doing that to me," Sussman told the courtroom. "This," he added, "from a man who's writing books for 9-year-olds."

Bath fell under suspicion of federal agents in recent years when two agencies -- the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE -- began independent investigations of the author's alleged trading of child pornography.

Sussman told the courtroom Monday that when ICE agents searched Bath's home last June, seizing a Compaq Presario computer, portable memory devices and DVDs, they found movie clips of children -- some of them bound -- crying as they were sexually abused.

I actually really enjoyed this book and its sequel when I read them several years ago. But then I saw that the author was convicted and is currently serving jail time for possession and trading of child pornography. Any illusions I had of this just being a fun book for kids was destroyed. You can find out more by googling K.P. Bath, since I can't post links here.

I'm grossed out beyond reason, because I can't imagine how his position of trust as an author could possibly have led to crimes against the very children he was writing for. This is all conjecture on my part, but I can't get that image out of my head.

Reading these books are up to you, since they're actually good stories, but the subtext and implications behind his words are too much for me to handle.

Child abuse cannot be tolerated for any reason.

Lucy Wickwright has hard times in life. She has no friends and can't seem to do anything right. But everything changes when she finds out she is King Cant's daughter. Lucy exists in a world of kings, queens, and knights and flip flops. She finds herself in a mess with all of the maids and Arden Gutz the wizard. Lucy has changing emotions from a hard working girl to a very emotional girl.
Lucy is a maidservant for Miss Pauline Cant because her family died after falling off of the side of the castle. The relationship between them is friends, until they both find out Lucy is the rightful Queen then they become sisters. She becomes a spy for Arden and steals from Orloff. Will Lucy ever become Queen or will she stay her mistress's maid?
I think the author needs to make a series because once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. All girls from 9-13 will like this book. Bath's writing had a phenomenal twist in the middle and an outrageous ending. The author used visual imagery because you could picture the knights in their armor, flip flops, and shorts.
With awesome reasoning and splendid storytelling. The Secret of Castle Cant shows how two girls can find their courage and show devotion to each other in difficult times. That even a person with the lowest of duties can have greatness in her.

Orphaned Lucy Wickwright is the long-suffering maidservant and involuntary co-conspirator in the madcap exploits of her mistress Pauline, heiress to the Barony of Cant. However, their relatively carefree childhoods are rapidly nearing an end. Amid ominous rumblings of discontent and even revolution, Lucy finds herself caught up in plots against Pauline and the gum-chewing aristocracy of Cant, and must decide where her loyalties lie.

Intelligent and well-written with an original premise (the premodern barony of Cant, tucked away in the creases of modern maps, which allows for modern incursions such as chewing gum and t-shirts), _The Secret of Castle Cant_ is a very promising first novel. The author's strongest suit, in my opinion, is the fact that he, like the best authors for young readers including J.K. Rowling, obviously respects the intelligence of his readers and doesn't write down to them. His "footnotes" and other references to the "history" of Cant also suggest that this world has not just been casually thrown together but carefully developed in his mind.

Pauline and Lucy develop a wonderful friendship that outweighs their original class differences and, while spoiled, Pauline is portrayed sympathetically and is obviously in the process of changing to a better, less thoughless person by the end of the book. Lucy is fiercely loyal and, while her methods for avoiding trouble without strictly lying may be deplored by some parents, her use of them is certainly realistic (I know I did it), and is unfortunately in common use by many adult public figures these days. My only criticism is that boys close to the heroines' ages seem to be portrayed as either stupid or arrogant, but I hope that can be remedied in the next book.

Altogether an enjoyable book, and I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel.

If you are considering buying this book, you should be aware of the author's crimes.

According to CNN, on July 9, 2010, "A federal judge sentenced children's author K.P. Bath to six years in prison Thursday for possessing child pornography. Investigators found a large collection of pornographic photographs and video clips in the Portland, Oregon, home of the author of "The Secret of Castle Cant" and "Escape from Castle Cant," according to a statement federal prosecutors released Thursday.

"Many of the videos graphically depicted the sexual abuse of very young children," the statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Oregon said. Bath, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography. Bath's collection included images depicting sadistic conduct, rape, sodomy and bestiality, prosecutors said."
