5.0 out of 5 stars The intellectual call girl
Highly unusual subject especially delivered in such a literate manner by an apparently well educated and sophisticated woman. I hope she is working on another book as we speak

Even at the considerable saving of a kindle version this book is a complete waste of time. The literary ability of the author is at best elementary school level. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Lonely Profession, December 11, 2011
This book is certainly eye opening for those curious about the high-priced paid sex trade. While the author-narrator meets some very wealthy and powerful clients, enjoys the luxurious perks of her trade, and has some fantastic sex, being a high-priced call girl is not something she finds emotionally fulfilling. With one older client who becomes her sugar daddy, she reflects that living with him is like being in a gilded cage, while with another man she realizes that, at least in America, there's a huge gap between love and respect and sexual satisfaction. Sex is something Dimitra does to pay the bills; she would rather paint or be a photographer. Although the money and perks are nice, the picture she paints of her profession is a rather lonely one where the sex is loveless and it's hard to form friendships, especially among one's resentful fellow call girls.

Dimitra does talk briefly about her family, but I would have liked to know more about her life and relationships outside the sex trade. I hope she does a follow-up book in which she delves a bit more deeply into those things.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your time, January 12, 2011
This review is from: Secret Confessions of a high-priced Call Girl (Mass Market Paperback)
Even at the considerable saving of a kindle version this book is a complete waste of time. The literary ability of the author is at best elementary school level. The events described are not uninteresting but the basic manner in which they are outlined fails to convey any emotion to engage the reader. I have never done any sort of book review before in my life but have taken the time to submit this one as I really felt misled by the reviews that existed for it. I have no links in any capacity to the author and certainly am not making any personal attack but I don't think this work should have been published. Her story is interesting but should have retold through a professional writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done!, May 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found this book to be gripping, engaging and titillating, of course. Actually, I could not put it down, and I read it all in one sitting, last night. In fact, it kept me up so late that I even overslept a little, and had to scramble to make it to work on time. Anyway, it's very nicely written, from a technical standpoint, and just in terms of pure storytelling. I've read other literature by sex workers - and "Secret Confessions Of A High-Priced Call Girl" is the most thorough, candid account I have found thus far. Certainly, tastes vary and not everyone is going to like the same things, but this book is objectively good. Only someone with a repressed attitude about sexuality, strong moral opposition to prostitution or a personal grudge against the author, or all three, would not like it. The story grabbed hold my attention and interest, and I really wanted to see how it would turn out. I could not stop reading it. suppose the beginning of the story grabbed me, with Dimitra's desire to travel to New York City and to become an escort. Also, her difficulty reconciling "work" with her personal romantic relationships was very interesting and poignant. Frankly, a lot of people don't understand this aspect of sex work. Also - I did like the sexual description. It's pretty good stuff. It's a rare ability to be introspective and insightful, and even more rare to have the courage to reveal one's inner feelings, inadequacies, and insecurities, to the whole world. Most people lack the interest in delving into themselves in any depth anyway, and even if they did, they lack the ability to identify and articulate exactly what it is they are feeling and why. I am totally sincere when I say that this book is really good. It's difficult to plow new ground sometimes, in the genre of working girl tell-all, but Dimitra's book involves more than just her experiences (which are obviously interesting and outside the experiences of most people); it involves her, her own story and journey, and her feelings as she goes through the experiences. For this reason, it's probably the best look inside the mind of a higher-end escort I have read. My only complaint is that it's not longer! To sum up, it's a very good read, and the best I've seen of this genre. I am impressed, and I'm not easily impressed. I do technical writing for a living, so I'm a pretty harsh critic, at times. Well done and thanks for sharing!

The book started off very exciting and interesting, however, the end ran on with no point and nothing interesting. It just kind of stopped.

Dimitra writes like she is talking you... by the end of the book i felt that I knew her. She mentioned the good things and the bad things in her chosen profession... it was neat to get an inside look into part of the world most of us wouldn't be brave enough to enter.

3.0 out of 5 stars So so, December 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was written well, but nothing spectacular. There was no deep insight into the secret world of escorting nor did it delve into the mind of a sex worker. The story was very surface. Humorous at parts, lackluster at many others. The author's take on sugar daddies vs. Escorting was interesting--many women ay that once you've been paid for sex, you never stop. I think that this is a very real alternative.

Was it horrible? No. Would I read again? No.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real Story of the Freedom, August 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Secret Confessions of a High-Priced Call Girl" is more than meets the eye. It is a riveting story of a real person, working in a profession that is exciting and rewarding (sometimes) and who is a normal and intelligent woman. She makes one wonder why the "oldest profession" hasn't been legalized and recognized for the outstanding contributions many of the women in the profession have made to society. This volume is a must-read for those who like a little spice in their read but who are also wise enough to see it's significance. Bravo!

2.0 out of 5 stars So so, April 11, 2011
This review is from: Secret Confessions of a high-priced Call Girl (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to agree that this book could have been a lot better if written by a professional. The premise of the story is quite intriguing but it lacks any kind of real emotion. There is no personal or relationship growth which makes the read a bit depressing, as the author grows into her 30's and is still turning tricks for trade. The intimate sexual descriptions are extremely limited, as were the clothing and other descriptions. The author tries to let you in on her world but seems lost in her non conventional lifestyle. There's a lot of analyzing and trying to convince the reader that this line of work is not shameful. She insists she's very smart and can keep up with her clients, and in only one page she writes a conversation she's having that is filled with worldly talk and philosophy.
Her persuit for love is depressing as she throws her body at men and cant acheive a level of intimacy beyond sex and superficial pillow talk. You also get to see how her job tends to build resentments as her old client uses the idea of her to further his career in writing. I never understood how this was hurtful to the author, but she chose to "out" him to everyone because she felt he had used her. It seems more because he didnt do her a business favor, after their affair.
I have nothing against prostitution but I felt like there was no personal growth in this book. The author is excessive in her discussions on discrimination and hate crimes yet she doesn't cruisade for those rights. Had she, I think this book would end on a high note.
I read the book in one day, all the contradictions about prostitution are glaring and the book ends so abruptly I thought I was missing pages. I wanted to like this author and her story but I ended up feeling empty and didn't understand who this person was. Not a good read.

1.0 out of 5 stars PROMISING BOOK, UNFULFILLED PRODUCT, January 9, 2010
This review is from: Secret Confessions of a high-priced Call Girl (Mass Market Paperback)
This book promises excitement and insight, especially with its seemingly provocative cover. Unfortunately, after a promising start, it generates into a series of forgettable sexual encounters. The author seems to bear a grudge against Mr. Sorkin who spent considerable time with her while procuring her services. So instead of grand insights into the life of a wealthy call girl, we find considerable resentment pervading the contents of this otherwise titillating book. So in comparison with classic volumes on this same topic, the book ends on a flat note of unfinished business. It is difficult to recommend this book to any but the most puerile readers.
