Manly Hall's book on the hidden destiny of america is a well written and easy to read book of America as the Neoplatonic Utopia. Citing from rare and obscure references you will discover some amazing ideas of a land not born in history until some 500 or more years later. The book starts out in Ancient Egypt with Aknaten, as he declares the first democrat. Hall then states that the Greeks did at one time sail to America and got as far as the Great Lakes. The book also deals largely with prophecies. That of Atlantis, Nastradamus, Lord Bacon, Plato, and other more 'silent' prophets. The one particular aspect of this book that I really enjoyed is that Manly Hall really appreciates books and knowledge. He values them to the utmost degree (see his Great Books on Religion and Esoteric Philosophy). In the course of this literature he states that its not the facts that matter, but rather there is another point of view of history that we may not be aware of. This is just another one and to take it as gosepel truth is to miss the point entirely. Its to keep our imagination rolling and our eyes open that we can see the [personal] utopia. He goes on saying that America is the lost Utopia, or the never found utopia that so many people have been searching for or speculating in theory. Among the famous people that founded this country of whom all of which were involved in Freemasonry or other Secret Occult Societies. Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, and perhaps even Christopher Columbus. It is clear Manly P. Hall knows his materials and the content within them. Highly reccomended for anyone learning about utopias, American history, Manly Hall readers, Freemasonry and Secret Society.

Prolific author Manly P Hall's life work was getting to the bottom of stores of historical, hidden, fundamental knowledge of human life on earth. Here he chronicles the efforts of quiet real leaders of human/social/political/human spiritual development from pre-history to the end of World War II. In the United States Of America, he tells of the reason for the establishment of an entirely new type nation in a new world which is to be a model, mentor and guide to other nations which have people aspiring to the universal and common human goal of liberty and self determination. To wit: "WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness--That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed...." As he wrote at the end of WWII, it seemed to Hall that humanity had at last a solid hold on a corner of the goal. It is terrifying (to me) to see our government racing madly backwards toward a "Directorship" heedless of the agonizingly won and saved freedom we uniquely cherished as a light to struggling peoples and a human spiritual (not sectarian) guide and help to right and happy living on earth. Is "America" over?

This is a fantastic book. I have been reading Hall and his books are very intelligent and enlightening. I have little doubt that what he writes here is true. I do fear however that this vision of America becoming an enlightened nation has been lost in a cloud of greed. America is now a large corporation where the rest of the world has placed it's stake. Look at our nation, we are now a nation of obese, greedy, lazy, uneducated, and apathetic slobs. We are caught in what I call Celebrity-ism (in wich we idolize and obsess with celeberties and their every move)and drowning in materialism. It is sad really. Maybe one day we will re-awaken to fufill the Secret Destiny of America.

In this book, Manly P. Hall gives a glimpse into how the U.S. and its democratic system of government were planned long before America was even colonized. It also tells of the obscure people behind the scenes who secretly helped form our governing laws and documents.

The enlightened members of the secret societies, which have existed for thousands of years, understood the secret destiny of civilization: a world democracy through cooperation, education, spirituality and social conduct. It is essentially a Neoplatonic Utopia. Representatives from these groups migrated to the U.S. at early dates and set up their organizations.

This occurrence is evident by the people who worked behind the scenes like Francis Bacon, who laid out the plans for America in his book, New Atlantis 150 years earlier, to Ben Franklin and many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who were Freemasons. Sir William Pope predicted through Astrology that George Washington would lead the colonies to freedom and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, four decades before it happened.

There are some great quotes in the book. One of the best is from Solon: "In the ideal State laws are few and simple, because they have been derived from certainties. In the corrupt State laws are many and confused, because they have been derived from uncertainties.

Great book, easy read.

If you are a staunch American, you will not like what you read here. The masons and secret societies are all about World government. An excellent reference for those interested in the agenda of the secret societies and the elitist scheme for world government.

It tries to make the case that America was founded by a 'secret brotherhood' with the intention of it becoming a catalyst for the spread of democracy and the ultimate eventuality of a worldwide Utopian commonwealth. This 'brotherhood' has always existed, according to Hall, and his essays are apparently intended to show proof of this. But they are mostly filled with unsubstantiated claims and urban legends; nice entertainment but hardly instructive. Over and over he resorts to 'the Ancients' to strengthen his claims, but never bothers to say who these ancients are nor does he provide sources.

The second part, 'America's Assignment with Destiny,' is a lot better in my view. It is a more factual account of the history of the Americas. If I had it to do again, I would skip the first part and go straight to the second.

I've noticed a couple of typos, and on page 148 there is a reference to a work by H.B. Alexander, 'The Mythology of all Races,' but it's given as, 'The Mythology of all Ages.' The actual physical quality of the book seems pretty good. The binding is tight and I don't foresee any pages coming loose any time soon.

This is a great book to help one to understand the true purpose for the founding of America. It reveals the truth of the secret society that was behind the establishing of this country.

This book should have been a text book for every eight grader in our public schools
from the beginning of the establishment of this country. I believe if it had been we would have a much better country today.

Manley Palmer Hall spent his life studying nations and their cultures. His history traces efforts at liberty and self government throughout the known ages. He saw the United States as the culmination of thousand of years of effort by Unknown Philosophers to find a place and opportunity for a people to rule themselves in Liberty and be Free, shining its example to others in the outside world and encouraging them to be free. He includes known examples of apparent spiritual assistance and guidance in achieving a functioning government based on the ideas, "We hold These Truths to be self evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights...." which their creature the government, (which has no primary rights to give) may not violate. Interesting, short, well written, definitive. A Must Read for Americans and all interested in Liberty.

"The Secret Destiny of America" is another timeless Manny P. Hall piece. Although this was written during WWII, the overarching message is still very relevant. There are a few archaic references but these do not interfere with the overall message. As with anything you read, the work is best read with an open mind. But, consider the possibilities....
