4.0 out of 5 stars The Faire Folk, July 7, 2009
This review is from: The Secret of the Dread Forest (The Faire Folk Saga) (Paperback)
I really liked this book, for all ages. The story line and plot kept you wanting to read more. I liked that the trees were not only able to talk but that they all had different personalities. I am sure that people can relate to many of the things Keelie had to deal with. I like it when the story makes it hard for you to tell the good character from the bad. It makes me have to pay attention to the story plot. I am looking forward to the next set of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars a truely enjoyable book !, August 5, 2011
This review is from: The Secret of the Dread Forest (The Faire Folk Saga) (Paperback)
One thing I enjoyed about this book was it was chocked full of information about keelie's world. Although I loved the first two, there where times when something would be mentioned but not fully explained. It is a great story about keelie winning the hearts of her elven community by bringing balance to the magic of their forest. I really enjoyed all the characters. Especially alora, her spoiled complaints along with her childlike wisdom are really enjoyable . I am fourteen and I have a sister who is twelve. Neither of us can get enough of this series! . It is equally proportioned between adventure, romance, comedy, and great characters.
It is great for any one who likes Harry Potter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite series of mine, August 4, 2011
This review is from: The Secret of the Dread Forest (The Faire Folk Saga) (Paperback)
Why I read this: I loved the first two books in this trilogy, so I had to read this one.

Plot: The last book of the trilogy, The Secret of Dread Forest does not disappoint. Keelie now has to face her formidable grandmother, who loathes her deceased mother as well as seems to dislike her because she is only half elf. Not only does she have to face her grandmother, but a vampire. Vampires are different in this world - they are fey that no longer are true to their nature. Also, the Dread that keeps humans out of the forest is in danger, and, in turn, so are the fey that live there.

Characters: I really love Keelie. She's definitely outspoken and, at times, speaks before thinking. She has to adjust to more changes, but puts up with the situation the best she can. She holds grudges, loves easily, and sometimes trusts too easily. I like that she is not perfect, but hardheaded enough to help even when told not to.

Relatability: Anyone who has dealth with loss/love/or adjusting to a new home can relate to this series.

Cover Commentary: I like it - the covers in the series follow the theme of the book nicely.

I bought the Faire Folk Saga for my granddaughter who is 10. She's not ready for it quite yet, maybe they'll be a summer read. I really enjoyed them myself!

Love the Series, looking forward to more books. Yes, even us old ladies read creative stuff written for "young" readers. I recommend Naomi Novik, too.

I must say Gillian Summers never disapoints... I become a big fan and still running strong.. I really liked where she took the story in The Dread Forest. We find out that Keelie is more than just half elf and there is alot more to her and her family.. She finds herself trying to fit in a world of pointy ears. And you find yourself liking the people you didnt like in the previous books. I found myself laughing often while reading this book. Knot is just amazing and he surprises us all. Although there is not much romance in this book I truly enjoyed it...
Can't wait till she comes out with more of this saga... most excellent.
