Book Description

Wall Calendars June 15, 2008
A little slice of paradise tucked away from the outside world—over a mossy stone wall, at the end of an overgrown path, through a latched gate—the secret garden is a sanctuary of sensory pleasures: birdsong and gently trickling water, the scent of blooming flowers, the sun-dappled beauty of layers of greenery. From Smith & Hawken comes a year of serene havens for the mind and spirit. An English country retreat overrun with roses. Through a beautiful stone archway, a sunny kitchen garden. And an irresistible invitation to sit and stay awhile: a greenery-enveloped nook furnished with a pair of chairs. Accompanying the transporting photographs are gardening quotations and appreciations.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

“The first crocuses will emerge as a kind of fairy constellation in the overground grass…setting the stage for the black and purplish tulips, and eventually, the deeply perfumed lilacs.” –from the introduction by Deborah Bishop
Tucked away from the outside world, found in the most unexpected of places, the secret garden is a little slice of paradise. For 2009, discover a dozen lush sanctuaries, each one vibrant with sensory pleasures: the sound of birdsong and gently trickling water, the scent of blossoming flowers, so many shades of green.
Just beyond a wooden gate, a rose garden entices with its perfumed blooms. A tulip-lined path leads to a cozy breakfast nook. Two chairs under a tree-branch canopy extend an irresistible invitation to sit and stay awhile. Each of these gardens is peaceful, restorative, and alive, a serene haven for the mind and spirit. Accompanying the photographs are gardening quotations and appreciations.

More beautiful garden views than 2008, as if you have just turned the corner and caught a look. Perfect framing of vistas, a bit of floral knowledge, and squares that accommodate the day's details.

A lovely addition to your wall, or given as a gift.

I have purchased this calendar the last three years. I always look at many available calendars each year, but end up picking this one. The pictures are beautiful and would look great framed.
