I just received this glorious book. I have many renditions of the Secret Garden. This luxuriously, lovely book is filled with superb illustration that really captures the mood and era of the story. And there are so MANY illustrations, Inga Moore has created a painting for nearly every page! A really lovely addition to a collection or to share with your children. If you enjoy the artwork in this book, buy "The Wind in the Willows" also illustrated by Inga Moore .Simply wonderful!

This is a gorgeous copy of The Secret Garden, and the price is incredible. I bought a copy for my daughter, her best friend, my niece. Then I bought a copy to donate to my daughter's school library. And the ladies in the school office all wanted copies for their grandchildren, so I ordered copies for them as well.
The illustrations are beautiful - like something out of a fairy tale, nice size book, paper is high-quality, heavier weight. Complete, unabridged text. You can't go wrong with this book. It makes a lovely gift.

No parent should let an 8-12 year old leave their childhood without the wonder and magic of hearing this book read aloud. And adults who never read it themselves are in for a treat.

I love having classic books in the home and The Secret Garden was on the list of books to buy. I looked at several other versions of this book, but I absolutely LOVE the illustrations and colors in this version. It's a wonderful way to sit down with a child and get them started in the love of reading. A must have in any home.

This is what my 7 y.o. son had to say after he read it...,

This story is about a girl named Mary Lennox. She first lives in India with her Ayah. Then suddenly her Ayah dies from cholera. Then Mary is sent to live with her uncle in a huge manor in England. One night, she hears a faint crying. Then she follows it and she meets a boy named Collin Craven. She also makes friends with a boy named Dickon. The three of them become great friends and bring the forgotten garden back to life.

The Secret Garden is a classic that, I think, always fascinates young readers. Add to the mix the most beautiful illustrations such as then ones in this edition of the Secret Garden and you have the perfect gift for any little girl. I was very impressed not only by the wonderful illustrations but also by the quality of the book itself: Pages are nice and thick and the print relatively large so it makes it easy for a young reader not to get discouraged while reading this book.

and the illustrations were just enough to hold her attention. This was her first chapter book and she resisted at first, but it went like gangbusters after that. It's lucky we read it over the summer because she wouldn't let me stop and we stayed up past her bedtime every night until we finished it. We loved Mistress Mary, and the contrary face the illustrator drew for her, gently metamorphing her into a sweet little girl. The abridgement is unnoticeable to me, who read it, or more likely, it was read to, at about the same age.
