4.0 out of 5 stars Sarah Brightman or Linda Ronstadt?
The music is great. Enough other people have already said so, and I agree.

However, several people are under the false impression that the version of "Winter Light" missing from this CD was recorded by Sarah Brightman. That's simply not the case. She recorded it for her "Classics" album, released in 2001 and she's NOT the person who sang the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the music but are sample length composures
After seeing, The Secret Garden, I was enchanted by the music. I figured I would purchase the soundtrack. As you would expect in any movie soundtrack Audio CD, you would be able to enjoy listening to each full song or complete composition. It seems each composition is too short, or is a sample of what Zbigniew Preisner has originally composed for each song. The Audio...

The music is great. Enough other people have already said so, and I agree.

However, several people are under the false impression that the version of "Winter Light" missing from this CD was recorded by Sarah Brightman. That's simply not the case. She recorded it for her "Classics" album, released in 2001 and she's NOT the person who sang the version you hear at the end of "The Secret Garden".

Linda Ronstadt wrote the song (with Eric Kaz and Zbigniew Preisner), her recording of it was included with the credits at the end of "The Secret Garden", and can be found on her 1993 album, "Winter Light".

Just thought y'all would like to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars #1 on my list of Best Soundtracks!!!, July 13, 1999
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is my favorite soundtrack of all time. I own it, and I've listened to it about 5000 times. (if not more) The music has an innocence to it, and it seems to tell a story by itself...I highly reccomend it!

The only thing I wish they did with this album, was include the song that they play over the end credits of the movie, and the song that plays in Mary's musical box. But these aren't complaints, they only make the movie more enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's not much I can add..., December 3, 2000
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
that the other reviewers haven't said, but I had to stick my oar in. I first saw this movie when I was 10 and have been in love with it ever since. The soundtrack was one of the things that really stuck in my mind. It was like mermaid music. Even at 10 I could appreciate the beauty and sonerous melodies. Everytime I hear it, chills tickle my spine and I get this twinge because I regret that I'm not in the garden with Mary, Colin and Dickon. The soundtrack incorporates a lot of violin solos and a lot of classical sounding music. I think there is really a bit of a Celtic flavoring in it too. Not that much, just a hint, kind of like a lemon slice in a glass of water. It really complements the movie through all its moods, you could even say it fits the book. There's not really anyway to sum it up except that this is enchanting, and soothing and it's just real GARDEN music. Buy it, you will be inspired.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, stunning, October 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
You don't need to have watched the movie to enjoy this beautiful piece of work, it's like a masterpiece, I play it in my car all the time and I don't usually listen to classical music. I visited one of the sites on Preisner and there was some sort of debate about whether his music could 'stand alone' without the movies he has composed for. I think that the music definitely speaks for itself and he is a BRILLIANT composer. Track 4 [First Time Outside] is haunting and magical. I love all the 'eerie' tracks: 2,3,4,11.... If there was one thing that could be changed it's that I wish there were proper names for each track, not just descriptions from the movies, I think each piece deserves it and also I wish Track 2 and 4 were longer, most of the songs are too short.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Is Linda Who Sings Winter Light In The Secret Garden!, June 19, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The Secret Garden (1993) is a beautiful movie filled with beautiful music which is in this wonderful soundtrack and the only negetive is that they didn't include the beautiful song Winter Light. I know that there is a debate along reviewers on who sang Winter Light in the movie with a couple of reviewers insisting it was Sarah Brightman, but it wasn't Sarah Brightman. Sarah Brightman is a wonderful singer with a beautiful voice and she has a recording of Winter Light on one of her albums and I think that is where the confusion stems from. The version in the movie is actually sung by Linda Ronstadt who also has a beautiful voice and if you put in your DVD or video of the movie you will see that in the end credits it says Winter Light is written and performed by Linda Ronstadt and I just bought her CD The Very Best of Linda Ronstadt and the song Winter Light is on it. If you are looking for Sarah Brightman's rerecording of Linda's song it is on her Classics album.

5.0 out of 5 stars This soundtrack is complete, both musically and emotionally., August 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Nothing about this sountrack is embellished or grandiose; rather, it is an amazingly well composed peice of music. The compositions don't leave my ear wanting more or less, nor do they trivialize a story that most would consider to be a "childhood classic". (In other words, the compositions don't sound stereo-typically childish or "Disney-esque".) Most importantly, there is something about the compositions themselves that are joyful and extraordinarily tender all at once, and I don't think I have ever listened to a sountrack that has evoked within me such strong emotional reactions toward the film itself.

I suppose what I am really trying to say is that the music and the movie cannot be seperated -- I experience the movie as I listen to the music. And yes, while I think that sountracks in theory are supposed to accomplish this task, I feel that this particular soundtrack captures the heart of Mary and Colin; of children and childhood.

It is because of this that I can say that this music is complete, both emotionally and musically. This sountrack doesn't "point" toward the feelings or images of the film; it just simply IS The Secret Garden.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the music but are sample length composures, July 22, 2004
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The Audio CD is in order of the movie. It seems it has been organized in this manner rather than being able to enjoy the full scope of each composition; unless of course Zbigniew Preisner intended each song to be so brief.

I still love the CD but would love to have each song in their entirety rather than split up in the CD?

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful...but...., August 23, 2001

Listening to this soundtrack brings back the memories of lush gardens and gorgeous scenery...but there's too little of it! The pieces with the boy choir are gorgeous...but after a little, they all start to sound the same. And of course, we miss the last song, the song from the credits, for which I bought the album. So I'm not sure if I reccommend this album--there are some pretty sounds, true, but for 18 dollars it's a lot less than I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, Thoughtful, and Beautiful!, July 6, 2003

Camille Olcese (Pittsburg, KS USA) - See all my reviews

It's hard to describe this music in words. The film itself is one of the masterpieces of cinema. The soundtrack, however, is almost a different piece of work altogether, though both the film and the soundtrack fit together perfectly. The strings that are at the center of much of the music are amazingly passionate, and are so beautiful that, at several points, they made me want to cry. You don't even need to see the movie to enjoy this music, though I hope very much that it will spark your interest in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music, but missing something. . ., August 4, 2003
By
This review is from: The Secret Garden: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The music on this soundtrack is beautiful -- very soothing and relaxing. However, I was very dissappointed that the beautiful song at the very end was not included on the soundtrack. I had bought the CD especially because I thought that it would be on there (I didn't know the name of the song at the time.) I enjoyed the CD anyway, but I think that the producers really should have included that song along with the others. Other than that, I liked the music.
