This is a stellar Reba album. She deserves all the credit for the album. She is just great. All the songs will put you in a instant Christmas mood. Reba sings with emotion and feeling with a little bit of humor in this recording. Reba, you are the best!

CONTEMPORARY CHRISTMAS MEETS CLASSICAL...GREAT!,
By
This review is from: Secret of Giving (Audio CD)
NOT MANY artists have career longevity (or guts) enough to put out two Christmas albums in one career; enter country's long-reigning queen, Reba McEntire (we're talking someone awards shows had to tell their members NOT to vote for because she was so dominant). This Christmas album is my favorite that I've ever heard. Reba, who arranged two tracks, flawlessly blends traditional carols (which she arranges) with powerful, contemporary Christmas songs. I listen to this album in August for goodness' sakes! The highlight of the album to me is "One Child, One Day," a song many love and some are unable to grasp the inner meaning; sometimes with more contemporary music we forget what all this Christmas business is about, the real SPIRITual meanings. Another powerful performance is Reba's fleckless "deliverance" of the half classic half carol "Mary, Did You Know?" Talk about a (Warning, cliche time!) tear jerker! She also turns in great performances on "The Secret Of Giving" and the delightful "This Is My Prayer For You." Highly recommended, not only will you get in the spirit of Christmas, but you'll understand more of the real SPIRIT of things! A great 5 stars.

A SMALL SAMPLING OF CHRISTMAS AND A BIG SAMPLING OF POP,
By cordelia (alamosa, co) - See all my reviews

Most of the songs here are just secular pop ballads. That they have Christmas themes is purely incidental and peripheral. The arrangements are lame and not holiday sounding at all. This one would be a waste to get.

OVERDONE NON-CHRISTMAS SOUNDING CD,
By jashar (little rock, AK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secret of Giving (Audio CD)
As are most of Reba's later CDs, this one is also overdone. The fact that it is a CHristmas offering is purely peripheral. The main thing is that its more overdone stuff of the pop element of which McEntire has been singing for all these years now. Nothing new is offered here and certainly it won't become a Christmas classic.

UGGH!!!,
This review is from: Secret of Giving (Audio CD)
There are no words to describe this god-awful Christmas CD put out by a good singer who could have done way better!! Most of the tunes are no different than her pop material (which she needs to give up) with the exception of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" which is outstanding. For that one, I'll give this CD One star! But that's being generous!!!

High quality Christmas pop-country offering,

This was Reba's second Christmas album. It is very different from her first, Merry Christmas to you, which was firmly rooted in traditional country.
Reba sings a great mix of old and new songs on this album. The old classics are represented by I saw Mama kissing Santa Claus and Up on the housetop. Two contemporary songs that could yet become classics are Mary did you know and Till the season comes round again. Kenny Rogers had previously recorded both of them for his album, The gift, although Kathy Mattea (on her Good news album) was the singer who first popularized Mary did you know (written and first recorded by an obscure Christian music singer). I have not heard any of the other six songs anywhere else but they are certainly worth hearing. My favorites are the opening This is my prayer for you and the title track, although One child one day is not far behind and the others are also wonderful. If you enjoy nineties pop-country music and you are looking for something festive, this will suit you ideally.

SORRY PEOPLE, REBA MISSED ON THIS ONE!,
By ransum (Dover, DE) - See all my reviews

When I think of Christmas Music I think of "Lorrie Morgan's" Christmas album, the one she did with the London Philharmonic. The songs here aren't bad but the production is no different than any other time of the year. Christmas music MUST sound CHRISTMASY in order to put me in the holiday mood. This CD just didn't do it for me. There were a couple of songs I liked such as "Mary Did You Know" and "Up on the Housetop" but for the most part, all the songs are just ordinary ballads that would fit on any Reba CD. If you want a really good Christmas CD buy Reba's first CD "Merry Christmas to You". That one earns five stars from me and more!! Also recommended for Christmas is Patty Loveless' masterpiece "Mountain Christmas" or the above mentioned "Lorrie MOrgan Christmas Album".

This review is from: Secret of Giving (Audio CD)
It is so amazing how someone can knock a person right out of their seats with a Christmas album. Reba's voice is just so sensational that it brings out the spirit of Christmas. It is a must for everyone even those who aren't Reba fans. This is the best Christmas album that I have ever heard. Excellent job, REBA!

This CD is tradional Reba. I mean she sings like she did when she first came on the scene. I absolutely love it. The songs are very spiritual and emotional.
