Lightweight story, but one of the better Secret Invasion mini-series, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four (Paperback)
Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four collects issues #1-3 of Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four, originally published in 2008; Fantastic Four #300, first published in 1987; and Fantastic Four #357-358, first published in 1991. The events of this book occur simultaneously with the opening issues of Secret Invasion (collected in Secret Invasion), but no familiarity with that series is required. Production quality is very high for a trade paperback. This one features medium-gloss paper, a flexible spine, and some useful editorial commentary describing the Fantastic Four's past encounters with the Skrull, Lyja. Also included are a variant cover and two pin-ups.
Like all the Secret Invasion tie-in mini-series, Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four is short and fairly light on plot. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's brief story sees Johnny Storm temporarily reunited with his former Skrull wife as he, Franklin, Valeria, and the Thing struggle to escape from the Phantom Zone. Though very simple and somewhat rushed-feeling, the plot works well--as does Barry Kitson's art--and is complemented by the older issues of Fantastic Four that make up the second half of this graphic novel. Fantastic Four #300 (written by Roger Stern and drawn by John and Sal Buscema) is a beautiful tale featuring Johnny's marriage to the woman he thought was Alicia Masters while #357-358 (by Tom DeFalco and Paul Ryan) tell of the false Alicia's later unmasking.
Overall, this is one of the better Secret Invasion mini-series. If you like Fantastic Four or the main Secret Invasion books, you'll enjoy this one. Casual readers looking for a gripping story, however, are better off looking elsewhere.

Ben and Johnny adventure..., February 2, 2011
This review is from: Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four (Paperback)
This book collects Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four 1-3, FF 300, 357, 358.
I enjoyed this story I think because it focused more on Ben and Johnny than it did Reed and Sue. Reed is away being held captive by the Skrulls as they prepare to invade Earth and Sue is away at some conference as a speaker.
That leaves us with Ben and Johnny. They are in the Baxter Building with Val and Frankie when it is warped to the negative zone by a skrull. This skrull has significance to Johnny and there are some touching moments that follow. There are also some good action scenes as Ben defends val and frankie from invading bugs.
The story was good for a Ben and Johnny adventure and the artwork is great as well. Recommended for FF fans.

Ben and Johnny are in the Zone...literally...., May 20, 2009
This review is from: Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four (Paperback)
This mini-series collects the Fantastic Four involvment in the Secret Invasion event, but it only restricts to Ben and Johnny along with Valaria and Franklin and a special return character, who I will not spoil for those who haven't read the mini, just for this mini.
However, both Reed and Sue do take part in the mini, but they're just in cameo and it tells the reader how Sue got captured by the Skrulls.
The real reason I brought this mini, was due to the return of that special character that was made for this event and the connects it had to the Fantastic Four, as this mini also details the first appearance of that said character.
I would recommend this for anyone who fell in love with this special character, around her time, and if you all like an okay Ben and Johnny adventure.
