an endearing book from my childhood,

The secret kitten is unwanted by the owner who has a whole litter to get rid of. Two children take it home and take care of it. When Dad hears the meowing, the children chorus "Can we keep him? Can we keep him? Can we keep him?" over and over. The book teaches a love of animals, independence in children, and the softheartedness of a loving father. I love this book!

It is difficult in this day and age of technology and modern lingo to find a book that is simple, with clear morals and a story of understanding and love for kids. This book is a snapshot of what simple families use to be like, before computers, and before the kids were knee deep in a cell phone texting all of their friends. A brother and sister find a lost, lonely kitten and decide to take care of it. They keep it a secret from their mother and father for as longs as possible, and have to deal with all the silly and cute things kittens love to do. This book will make you smile as you remember the days when you were a kid, and you tried to sneak one over on your parents as well.
