5.0 out of 5 stars Lori Foster always delivers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lori Foster always delivers!, March 19, 2004
The secret life of Bryan by Lori Foster is a great novel- it picks up the story of bounty hunter, Bryan, who was introduced in her previous novel (say no to Joe). But for those who haven't read that, this story stands on its own as well.

Bryan is masquerading as his brother, bruce, a preacher who runs a safe house for prostitutes. Bruce was attacked and Bryan is taking his place to find out why. Bryan meets Shay--a wealthy socialite who is posing as a prostitute so that she can get closer to the girls and help them. Shay and Bryan have instant chemistry but there are many lies that threaten their budding romance. Complicating things, is that someone is indeed after the preacher and now Shay as well. And it is someone they know and trust.

The story is fast paced, the ending is great- you never guess the identity of the stalker or the accomplice. It reintroduces characters from Foster's previous books- like Joe Winston, Luna, Jamie (the strange psychic). It also gives us new people to like and await their stories- like Bryan's brother bruce, Joe's sister etc.

This book has a little bit of everything- mystery, romance, suspence. Its a great summer read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Step Into The Make-Believe World Of Lori Foster!!!, March 2, 2004
I have been a long time fan of this very talented author and was just recently on a trip back to the States which meant a very long airplane trip. I was so thrilled when this title was release and I found it at my local bookseller that I grabbed it without a second thought and tucked it into my carry on. My 11 hour trip was not as painful as I thought it would be once I stepped into the world that Ms. Foster has created.

We met Bryan briefly in her story "Say No To Joe" and I was thrilled to find out that this was his story. Bryan is a twin that has decided that it's his job to protect his brother Bruce a preacher and who has just recently been attacked due to the work that he does regarding running a safe-house for ex-ladies of the night. This was a no brainer as far as Bryan was concerned he would step into his brothers shoes, do what he could for the ladies under his brothers care and most importantly find out who wants his brother dead. That is until he made the mistake of trying to "rescue" a damsel in distress by the name of Shay. Now his little world has been turned upside down because he should be acting like a preacher but his thoughts are anything but heavenly. In fact Shay has knocked him right off his feet. This is a big problem for the bounty-hunter that would never trust another woman again.

Shay can't believe her good fortune when Preacher saves her from a bad situation. Shay is a do-gooder but has been labled and branded a princess with too much money on her hands and not enough stength of conviction to really make a difference. Well, she has been given the perfect chance to prove all those that don't believe in her that they are totally wrong. Now she is working on the front line so to speak. She tells Bryan that she's not a hooker but does not want the other women at the safe house to know this. She then goes about the business of drawing everyone under her spell proving that she is serious about helping these women turn their lives around. Her main problem is trying to prove to Bryan that their attraction is not wrong. This is not easy since on top of all that was previously mentioned someone is trying to close down the safe house but who and why?

This was a fast quirky page turning read. Joe, Luna, and Willow and Austin make a return performance as well as Jamie Creed all living in Visitation. The relationship between Bryan and Shay is carefully constructed and as a result although peppered with Ms. Foster trademark sensuality this is not a read that dives right into an intimate relationship between the two main character but instead slowly lead to the admission that their relationship is more then lust. This is really a must read if you are a fan of Ms. Foster. If this is a first time read for you fear not this is a stand alone book and you will not be left scratching your head as to the various relationships that are presented. If anything this will drive you to pick up more of her titles. Always a good thing if you ask me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rollicking good time!, March 10, 2004

Lori Foster has done it again! SECRET LIFE lets you meet Bryan who is really a bounty hunter but is masquerading as his twin brother Bruce, the preacher. Talk about a chance for interesting interaction! Bryan is a lover of all things sensual and now he has to pretend to be a man who is more concerned with the other side of life. Throw in Shay who is pretending to be something a bit different from what she truly is and naturally fireworks will fly. I adore how Lori lets the reader into the mind of her characters, especially the male mind. I highly recommend this book as a fun read. You've done it again Lori!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bryan is a winner, February 18, 2004
By

Lori Foster brings back a memorable character from Say No To Joe?, bounty hunter Bryan Kelly.

Bryan has agreed to switch places with his twin brother Preacher Bruce Kelly. Bruce runs a charity organization for former prostitutes, when Bruce gets attacked Bryan takes his place to find out who wants to hurt his family.

Pretending to be the "Preacher" Bryan meets Shay Sommers and assumes she is one of the local working girls. He takes her back to a safe house but doesn't realize at first that Shay isn't what she appears to be and he is greatly disturbed by his strong attraction to this woman.

Shay Sommers has never met a preacher like Bryan Kelly. He is full of contradictions and is sexy as all get out. While Bryan at first thinks she is a hooker, Shay decides this is a golden opportunity to see those she helps in her charity work up close.

While trying to get to the bottom of the growing attacks on the safe house, Bryan and Shay act on the intense attraction for each other.

The Secret Life of Bryan is a funny, sexy and intriguing book. Bryan and Shay's connection will make you fan yourself. The three hookers will touch your heart and make you laugh yourself silly. Lori Foster has written another keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy and Fun!, February 26, 2004
It's a double case of mistaken identity! Bryan Kelly is a bounty hunter, but he is doing a pretty good job of impersonating his identical twin brother Bruce, a preacher. He mistakes Shay Sommers for a prostitute and tries to help her get off the streets and into a shelter. Little does he know that Shay is a wealthy widow with the same goal, to help ladies of the night leave their old lives behind. Bryan is nothing like any preacher Shay has ever met and she can't seem to convince herself that falling for him is a bad idea. Bryan is having the same problem. How can he fall for a hooker? Shay feels she can be even more helpful by really getting to know the other women at the shelter, so she doesn't want to admit her true identity. Bryan is trying to find out who hurt his brother, so he's not letting anyone in on his secret either! The chemistry between Shay and Bryan is undeniable. What will happen when the truth comes out?

THE SECRET LIFE OF BRYAN is warm and funny, with plenty of steam in all the right places. There's a wonderful cast of supporting characters, especially the women Shay meets at the shelter. I loved revisiting Joe and Luna and the others from Say No to Joe? And I've been waiting a long time to read about Shay, the older sister of Brandi Sommers in Fantasy! Lori Foster has written another keeper.

Lori Foster has long been known for great romances, hot sex, and delicious storylines. She delivers another scorcher with TSLOB. For Foster fans, it's another look into the clan we were introduced to in Say No To Joe? For newcomers, it's a fast, fun read into what happens when two people both pretend to be something they're not. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next installment in this interrelated series, When Bruce Met Cyn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit from Lori Foster, February 24, 2004
By
Caro61 (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
I loved Foster's Say No to Joe? and this book brings back a supporting character, Bryan Kelly. Bryan is a bounty hunter currently undercover looking for the person or persons who put his preacher twin brother Bruce in the hospital. Shay Sommers, who had a small part in Foster's Harlequin romance "Fantasy", is a hands-on philanthropist, looking for ways to help women 'in the life' of prostitution, and is mistaken by Bryan as a prostitute herself. Despite the deceptions both are carrying out, their immediate sizzling attraction makes for a hot read.

But as with most of Lori Foster's books, there are deeper, thoughtful themes of self-respect, self-worth, the value of every person's life, and the difficulties and rewards of remaking your life.

If you are a fan of Lori Foster, you'll love this book, and if you aren't yet, its sure to win you over.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a keeper!!!!, February 20, 2004
By A Customer
What would you do if you were mistaken as a prostitute, and on top of that, you felt a very strange attraction to a preacher?
Well, that's exactly the mess Shay's life had turned into. And said preacher, Bryan, wasn't far behind. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his twin brother, even if it meant passing as a preacher; even if it meant having the hots for a woman - a prostitute, no less. If to find out who was trying to hurt his brother he had to stand his attraction - plus taking care of a bunch of prostitutes - he would do it.
As the continuing part of "Say not to Joe", "The Secret Life of Bryan" will keep you stuck to the seat, bed, or any place you may be reading the book on. You won't be able to take your eyes off it till you finish. It is all a mix of suspense, intrigue, friendship, love and steamy-hot scenes that will melt you down to your bones.

What are you waiting for? Buy this book now! You won't regret it.

Is it only me or does it feel like Lori Foster did not write this book. I have read everything I can get my hands on that Lori has written and every single book I have read caught me at page 1, this one just didn't. I was really looking forward to hearing Bryan's story after reading Say No To Joe but it took me forever to get through the book.

It wasn't the worst thing I have ever read but it was not Lori's best work. The more and more I thought about it, it just didn't feel like she wrote it. Anyway, I just started When Bruce met Cyn. I'm only on page 50 but already I and enthralled with it and can't wait to get back to reading it.

I think The Secret Life of Bryan is important to read just to get to understand the characters of the next couple of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, March 4, 2004

Bounty hunter Bryan Kelly is trying to catch the person who beat up his brother. The only way to do that is to switch places with his twin brother Bruce, who is known as the "Preacher" to the ex-prostitutes that he helps. Before long, Bryan finds himself getting more involved than he wanted to with the women who live in his brother's shelter. One woman in particular is making his heart pound and his senses heat up.

Shay Sommers is only trying to help the same women that Bryan is when Bryan mistakes her for a hooker! She goes along with this mysterious and sexy "Preacher" hoping they can start working together, but decides to keep her real identity a secret until Bryan can get to know her and like her for herself, not her public reputation. With both of them keeping secrets from eachother, will they be able to resist the attraction that they feel for one another while they find out who is threatening Bryan's brother?

This is another fabulous story by Lori Foster! Ms. Foster does a wonderful job of building the suspense and sexual tension in this book. I was kept guessing as to who the bad guy was until the end. The chemistry between Bryan and Shay was so hot I had to make sure there was a cold drink nearby to cool down with! The cast of secondary characters added to the fun and I got to revisit with a few of the author's past characters as well, which I always enjoy. Go out and buy this book! I highly recommend it if you are looking for a sensual read that warms your heart.
