Forgotten classics, July 13, 1999

First of all, ignore the clueless "Emap" review -- this is an wonderful CD. Secret Life is a collection of Material's early singles and contains much of their best work. This is the pre-jazz Material, the music is super groove-oriented with lots of minimalist, hard-edged funk, early 80's rock and a few avant touches. Bill Laswell and Fred Maher are a crack rhythm section, and there's great offbeat guitar work by Cliff Cultreri and Robert Quine.
I highly recommend picking this up before it goes out of print.

This version of Material's collection on singles and EP's is a recordable CD-made on demand. Celluloid Record label offers (and is available on Amazon) the original material, "Temporary Music" PS. THE REAL THING IS CHEAPER TOO
