A poor excuse for an unauthorized biography,
By Ginny (Ann Arbor, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
I never expect much from the "unauthorized biography" genre, but this has got to be the worst book I have ever read. Full of factual errors, chronological errors, and even grammatical errors, this "tell all" expose is really nothing more than a paraphrase of Siegfried and Roy's autobiography "Mastering the Imnpossible," with some quotes from tabloid publications thrown in for salacious value. In addition to being laughably poorly written, the book smacks of a greed and revenge motivated smear campaign on the part of two dismissed ex-employees and an ex-romantic interest. If you want good reading about Siegfried and Roy, you won't find it here. Save your time and money!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
I was lucky enough to see Siegfried and Roy's show at the Mirage, from a seat right in front of the stage. It was totally awesome, one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen. Curious about the duo, I purchased this book. Well...The first thing that must be said, is that it was written by former employees, who would seem to have an axe to grind. The second thing that must be said, is that former employees know where all the bodies are buried; in this case, literally. So how much of this book is true? Hard to say. What can be said is that it is almost as fascinating as their show. Lots of "dirt" about lots of people, everyone from Steve Wynn to Liberace. Eccentric behavior in full measure (and beyond). And what really did happen the night Montecore attacked Roy? It's all a bit creepy at times, but it's sure a page-turner. Take it to the beach, this summer.

TALL TELLS AND DISGRUNTAL EMPOYEES,
This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
This book is totally a work of fiction. It is full of quotes from past article from tabloids and other news sources.Oh and what's with the history of Vegas lesson? These three men come off as jealous petty men. They couldn't even get Mr. Fischbacher's birthday correct. Gentlemen let me give you the correct date it is in fact, June 13, 1939. The pictures are miss labeled as tigers when they are in fact white lion. This book is a total joke and worthy of a few laughs and that is about it.

This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
Its great to discover books that give you a special insight in to the workings of showbiz superstars. This book tells you all you need to know about one of the most intrigueing partnerships in Las Vegas history and its ups and downs. It is a gripping story and the book is hard to put down. It is ideal reading matter that will keep you enthralled late into the night as you travel the Strip and visit the chromium plated haunts of the entertainment icons.

The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas
This book is a joke. It is fill with the writing from works like Siegfried and Roy Master of the Impossible and the National Enquirer. Dates are wrong in the book and the author even gets Siegfried and Roy mix up on alot of their stories. They start out saying that Roy did this and finish that it was Siegfried. You never know which one they are talking about. Most of what you get in the book you can get off the web for free so do not waste your money.

Very Disappointing!!!!,

Well, I guess their lives will still remain a secret because this book has nothing new to offer! As former employees who claim to have had a long and close relationship with S and R, they really don't have much to say about their OWN on the job experiences. The book simply rehashes old tabloid and magazine stories about S and R--not much about their own accounts on anything! The rest of the book is simply 'filler' material about the history of Las Vegas, Liberace's sexual preferences, etc...--not much to do with S and R. There are a couple of chapters that are copied almost exactly from S and R's own autobiography as well. If you have followed the careers of S and R, believe me when I say that this book has absolutely NOTHING new to offer! Don't waste your time nor your money!

FICTION,

This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
My respect and faith in the accuracy of the authors is nonexistant. Most of the book is paraphrased from "Mastering the Impossible" written by Siegfried and Roy, not to mention the relience on tabloid quotes, and the fact that claims made my Mydlach in a lawsuit several years back are altered in the book.... apparently he can't keep his lies straight. The book is an utter waste of money.

Tabloid Trash!,
By
This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
I really should have read the reviews before I wasted money on this book. It is basically about three disgruntled former employees who came together to make money off of an unfortunate incident involving their ex-boss. This trashy book can be compared to tabloid publications at best. The "authors" frequently slam S&R by mocking their accents, their names, their childhood dreams and Roy's love of animals. It seemed like every third page there would be a reference to S&R being homosexuals. If they are or if they are not, it is none of my business. However, I found myself rolling my eyes to their constant mocking of the "love" the two men have for each other. What I found even more disturbing were two pages filled with color photos of Roy in therapy sessions. The most disturbing one was a photo of Roy's pain medications. Who takes a photo of their boss' prescription medication? Who does that? The two pages of photos are something that would be seen in a tabloid like `The Enquirer'. These "authors" should be ashamed of themselves for taking financial advantage of an unfortunate incident as well as taking part in such a horribly written book. I truly hope Roy Horn never reads this trash.

A Good Read,

This review is from: The Secret Life of Siegfried and Roy: How the Tiger Kings Tamed Las Vegas (Hardcover)
This is a good book. It tells the good and bad side of these two men. It is a truthful book and very interesting, especially about how these two men came from such humble poor beginnings and made a half billion dollars. Their fame and glory of course was gone once Montecore attacked Roy Horn, but Roy admittedly had not been paying the same attention to his animals as he became middle-aged. It's a sad story because Roy Horn never became his normal self again and it's a story of the greatest Las Vegas act in history, outdoing all others. They even had a lifetime contract in Vegas until the attack. As to their being gay, well everyone knew that anyway didn't they, like Liberace, everyone knew but they loved the talent anyway. A very good read.
