So disappointing, no secrets revealed,
By Fiona (Seattle WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret Life of Wallander: An Unofficial Guide to the Swedish Detective Taking the Literary World by Storm (Hardcover)
I was captivated by the idea of this book, but very disappointed in the execution. There is nothing new for the fan already familiar with the Wallander canon. This book is basically a retelling of the plots of several (but not all) of the Wallander novels by Henning Mankell. Plus a couple of introductory chapters and a conclusion. There are quotes from the extras on the BBC Wallander DVDs and from book reviews previously published about the novels. Basically if you have read the novels and have seen the BBC DVD episodes and all the extras, this book offers nothing new. The author did a serviceable job, it's decently written, but I wish there had been more analysis, some new material or a more personal take by the author himself.
