Ok...just to let you know right off, if you're interested in reading this book, you MUST read 'Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes' first. There are many references and comments that could seem dead-end if you haven't read the first book.
That said...what a FABULOUS sequel! I loved it just as much as the first. Virginia Redmon is out to seek revenge on her ex daughter-in-law Nita for ruining her sons life (deservidly) and causing him to lose his law practice, which happened to be Virginia's main source of income. Virginia is the type of character you just LOVE to hate. While you're always rooting for Nita to stick-it-to-her, you can't help but look forward to whatever evil plan Virginia will come up with next. Now, while there were some things that may have seemed a bit far-fetched (like the whole adoption thing, it was quite a stretch for me to believe how Nita figured everything out) the ending was very satisfying. I just love Nita, Lavonne, and Eadie, and I can't wait for Ms. Holton's next novel. Hopefully it'll center around these three fun, martini-loving women again!

Even better than her first novel,

This review is from: The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes: A Novel (Hardcover)
In Secrets of the Kudzu Debutantes, the triumvirate of Nita, Eadie and Lavonne return in true form with high spirits, scheming minds and great fun. All three women seem lonely and confused with their male relationships: a neglected marriage, a potentially disastrous marriage to a young carpenter and the solo life of a bright workaholic. Despite their men, these three women know how to work together, bond and indulge in shakers of martinis as they once again plot with delight. While on the one hand, they are a sorry lot, on the other they are smart, lovable and laughable.
While focused on Ithaca, this novel slips to New Orleans, Amelia Island, New York and more where we get a glimpse of worlds larger, but perhaps no different from their small hometown. Regardless of whether we share these women's lives, we can see glimpses of our ourselves not only in too small Ithaca but also at nursing home, tennis courts, bars and hotels.

The author has done it again with a witty and laugh out loud funny novel! I could not put down her first novel and this one is just as good. If you want a great read and to laugh from cover to cover then read the latest goings on with Nita, Lavonne, and Eadie! Cathy Holton's novels should not be missed.

Was so pleased to find the author had written a second book, since after the first I had to know what happened next. This book was so funny, the pre-Thanksgiving party scenes were written in such a way I felt like I was there. Cant wait to read more from this author

I really like Cathy Holton. She has a way with words that southern women can really enjoy. Read the first book "Revenge of Kudzu Debutantes" and then this one. They are both delightfully funny.

I bought and read this book after reading "The Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes" from my local library. Cathy Holton has mastered the art of writing about strong, intelligent Southern women and the remarkable friendships they form. I definitely recommend reading this book.

delightful satire of southern customs,
This review is from: The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes: A Novel (Hardcover)
One year ago in Ithaca, Georgia the Kudzu Debutantes (Eadie Boone, Nita Broadwell and Lavonne Zibolsky) decided they had enough with cheating spouses so these steel magnolia catfighters (even if one is a carpetbagger) went dirty and revenged the affront. The repercussions of this not so civil war continue to haunt residents of the small town. Lavonne dumped her spouse Leonard and eighty pounds of bagels and ice cream while starting a business; Eadie is still married to Trevor, but feels he still ignores her; Nita divorced Charles. The trio's public actions devastated the reputation of the Broadwell & Boone family law firm where their philandering husbands worked.
Charles' outraged sexagenarian mother Virginia is further angered to learn Nita is marrying "boy toy" carpenter Jimmy Lee Motes. She decides to punish the Kudzu Debutantes for annihilating the family law firm by bankrupting Nita via forcing an expensive custody battle that her husband can afford while her opponent cannot over her granddaughter, Whitney. The second uncivil war has begun at a time that Lavonne finds some romance and Eadie struggles to wake up her now novelist husband, but each knows Nita's needs them now. As with the first Kudzu Debutantes, the second tale is a delightful satire of southern customs using exaggeration to tell a tale of revenge, counter-revenge, and ultimate trumping revenge. The two sides contain terrific strategic planners whose war shakes up the small Georgia town still reeling from last year's combat. Fans will appreciate the antics of Kudzu threesome as they battle the ultimate dominant steel magnolia in a no holds bar catfight. Harriet Klausner
