5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than the Second! Wow!!!
The Secret Lives of Men and Women is the third book in an ongoing series of books that are compiled from cards sent to Warren as part of an art project started several years ago. What began as an art project has, I think, has become a phenomenon...everywhere I go online these days it seems like Warren and his postcards are being talked about. From my perspective,...

3.0 out of 5 stars save your money and just check the website frequently
3.5 stars

i liked the book but then i realized that i just paid a lot of money for a picture book. it's interesting to read other people's secrets of course but ...not worth the cash.

it's the EXACT same thing as reading it online on his website. why pay for it if you can see it for free online [on his site]. this applies to all postsecret...

From my perspective, PostSecret and the Secret Lives of Men and Women (the second book still leaves me non-plused) are wonderfully innovative and I think will continue to have an impact on people for years to come! There is something very moving about opening up a book and seeing the innermost feelings of others...some that are so spot on to how one has felt in the past and others so alien as to break one's heart...but all are inspiring in their own way. You get humor (some of these are funny beyond description), heartwarming, disgusting, silly and even heart-wrenching...they run the gamut of human emotion and drag the reader (willingly and happily) along for the ride.

Like the second book, this third book is significantly shorter than the first book, but here we have a return to the amazing impact the first book has...I was much more moved (in a variety of ways) while reading this book...I've read it three times since picking it up from the library (and I'll be buying one this upcoming payday). All three would make great coffee table books and/or discussion group choices (though you could easily miss the second and be none the worse for it).

In the end, I'd recommend this without hesitation and I'll definitely be adding a copy to my permanent library. Wonderful stuff...I give it five stars AND two thumbs up! There is something universal about this book...I think we can all see a bit of ourselves somewhere in the book and knowing that someone else shares our secret is one of the best feelings there is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better then the dissapointing second book in the series, January 10, 2007
This review is from: The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book (Hardcover)
I have been a follower of this project ever since I saw Frank Warren promoting his foist book on the Today Show. I absolutelly LOVED the first book and was extremely dissapointed with the second one My Secret: A PostSecret Book (white cover). That one totally lacked the spirit of the first one.
This third edition has come to make up for what the second one lacked in my opinion. It is put together much better...the secrets are deeper and they flow throughout the entire book. I absolutely recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My secret's in here!, March 26, 2007
This review is from: The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book (Hardcover)
I drove 3 hours to Portland for the book signing and missed it so I could go visit a friend in prison instead. I bought an autographed copy at Powells on the way home. I drove 3 hours home before I read it and found my secret. It takes up a whole page, I mailed it in over 2 years ago. I felt like a million bucks. My mom lives out of state. She bought it and called me to tell me she saw my secret in the book and that it was obvious it was mine. I feel relieve that she knows my secret now and I didn't have to tell her face to face. This is a book that can be embraced by EVERYONE of any race, background, religion, personality. It gives the human race a common bond and makes us feel less alone. Thank you Post Secret. You help us heal our souls.

As the third book in this series, there are no surprises here. If you liked the previous books, you will likely enjoy this. I did enjoy the previous books and I enjoyed this one.

"Enjoyed" may not be the correct word to describe my feelings as I read these postcards containing people's deepest secrets. Perhaps it is more appropriate to say I am moved by what I read here. So little out there is truly moving. Perhaps that is why I find myself attracted to these books.

On the other hand, the Postsecret concept is not new or unknown anymore. There is a touch of self-awareness now that changes these books if it not just my own awareness of the concept that is tainting my experience somewhat. Still, I hope Warren keeps up the good work.

While not as good, nor as large as the original, The Secret Lives of Men and Women is still a moving collection of secrets. It will make you laugh, cry, and send shivers down your spine. Get, view it, submit one of your own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frank Warren Now Has A Trio In This Emotionally Voyeuristic Series, February 7, 2007
By
Notnadia (Currently upstairs.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book (Hardcover)
This is the best of the series so far, but I wish it had been the longest as well. It's better than nearly all the weekly collections on the Post Secret website, and a couple of these cards in here were haunting. The theme here is faintly different than that in past anthologies, and it seems like the secrets are not only growing deeper but the artwork accompanying the post cards is evolving to be more intricate. It makes me wonder what the next release will be like, or what this project will be a year from now. I can't wait to go to the book signing here in Cincinnati tonight!
