Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

All Zeno Zeplin's childrens books are classroom created with students and/or edited with teachers and students in a series of public and parochial schools in manuscript until the enticement to read, the interest, excitement, and satisfaction are all there. Only then are his books published. Zeplin's children's books are clean, non-violent, enjoyable learning experiences that are also satisfying to teachers and parents. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Author

This began as a short school project to imagine and write a story in the five steps of "The Writing Process." From a list of ideas the class elected to write about a child in school while taking cancer treatments. They wanted to understand. We promised ourselves we would not write a sad story. We didn't. We brainstormed the subject, collecting every kind of idea. I selected a few and wove a simple story. We edited that story many times, expanding, adding love, imagination, empathy and support to help our patient cope. It was an adventure and a good story. Parents and teachers wanted the story to become a book. Too short for a book when finished, I expanded the story with student's ideas, a few of my own and more small details. From there, it went to other schools for progressive editing and a book-naming contest. The last editing was by counselors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Read "our book" and enjoy what came from the hearts of our students and from their shared creative skills. Learn again with us. Warm your heart with these delights so you will also understand those in need of your understanding. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
