Ending to a great series!,

This review is from: Secret Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
This final book was the best in the "Star" series. Grace is very wealthily, classy and upscale. Seth is a police Lieutenant. The ending to this book was like a fairy tale and was the perfect match. This series was great and I thought the combination made it all three were the perfect match A private investigator, a bounty hunter and now a cop. You will enjoy the series but do read them in order starting with Hidden Star. Enjoy!

Star Series is Wonderful- Nora Roberts has done it again,

This review is from: Secret Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
I truly look forward to reading each and every Nora Roberts book I buy. This one was no exception. Grace is a very rich lady who does many good deeds. I had a hard time relating to her character. However, I feel that Nora Roberts does a very good job of developing it in pieces so that you can slowly get to know the full person behind the money. Seth is the cop working to solve a murder. The mystery and intrigue this book provides was wonderful. I particularly liked the ending in this book. I thought it was fairly true to how I would act in a similar situation. (Would that I were so rich!) Although this book can stand alone, the first two book in the star series will provide background on some of the characters involved. I would suggest that you read all three in order.

A great end to a great series,

I found all three of the Stars of Mithra series in a bookcase at my local library that sells unmarked paperbacks for 15-cents apiece. Talk about buried treasure! I got a great trilogy for 45-cents!Secret Star is definitely my favorite of the three. The first two were great, but Seth's and Grace's story was the topper. Seth and Grace were definitely the most dynamic couple of the three (although I certainly also enjoyed Cade and Bailey and Jack and MJ). Seth went from a rules-are-my-life, police-have-all-the-answers, can-do-it-all, know-it-all uptight jerk to a lovely man capable of learning from his mistakes and admitting that he can use help, even from a PI and a bounty-hunter. With Grace, Nora Roberts peeled away the layers of her personality and showed that her gold-plated exterior shields a big-hearted, vulnerable woman you'd love to have for a friend. On the downside, I thought it unnecessary to allude to past lives and previous adventures with the Stars of Mithra (much more pronounced in this conclusion than in the first two books) and felt that the race to protect the jewels and unmask the villain and his cohorts could have stood on its own. A once-in-a-lifetime adventure appeals much more to the romantic in me than the silliness and fantasy of past lives. Fantasy fiction has its place, and I do enjoy it, but I don't like it unnecessarily mixed into what should be purely contemporary adventures. But that's nitpicking. Overall, this series is a great read and I highly recommend it. Great work, Nora!

The Best of the Series!,
By Sophie (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secret Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Secret Star" is the final instalment of the "Stars of Mithra" series and it was definitely my favourite. It is filled with romance, mystery, and excitement. This was a very satisfying end to the series.Grace Fontaine is a stunningly beautiful, incredibly wealthy woman who has in her possession one of three giant blue diamonds. Lieutenant Seth Buchannon is working on the case of these three Stars of Mithra. He is also investigating the murder of Grace Fontaine. But things are not as they appear, because Seth suddenly finds himself face to face with a dead woman. After Grace is brought up to date on what has happened and is reunited with her two best friends, Bailey and MJ, the race is on to find out who is responsible for the path of death and destruction that is following these priceless diamonds. Seth and Grace grate on each other terribly. And Seth figures Grace is just a spoiled and selfish little rich girl. But as Seth gets to know her, he realizes that Grace is not at all what she seems. Indeed, Grace is a woman with a good and extremely generous heart, and Seth finds her, and all of her contrasts, irresistible. As the mad man after the diamonds closes in, Grace is in more danger than anyone realizes, since his obsession is now not only with the Stars of Mithra, but also with Grace herself! The relationship that develops between Grace and Seth is fresh and interesting, and the mystery and adventure revolving around the diamonds is lots of fun. I thought Grace was a wonderful and complex character and that Seth was a great match for her. This story is fast-paced and intriguing and is a wonderful escapist read!

No Secret - This Book is Good!,

This review is from: Secret Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
The STARS OF MITHRA series deals with three best friends: Bailey James, MJ O'Leary and Grace Fontaine. All three are childhood friends and would trust each other with their lives, and this is just about what happens in this succession of books!
SECRET STAR is the ending to this series and what a terrific ending it is! Grace Fontaine is the other friend trusted with a huge diamond that is part of the Three Stars of Mithra. Grace is a beautiful, elegant heiress that isn't about to let anyone push her around. Seth Buchanan is a lieutenant with the local police and they run into each other at Grace's mansion that has been ransacked and her cousin murdered because of her resemblance to Grace. Now comes the twists and turns in this one! Grace and Seth try to tie up all of the loose ends in this murder mystery while reuniting the three diamonds. Of course love has it's place with this couple as well as the in the other two books in this series. The first two books are fantastic bringing the reader along in a ride filled with my mystery, fun and romance. They're well written and keep you reading from the first page until the last. When you get to this last book, Nora Roberts appears too busy tying up all of the loose ends to charm the reader with the magic and entertainment found in the other two books. She does a great job ending everything, but SECRET STAR is not as all encompassing as HIDDEN STAR or CAPTIVE STAR. All in all, this is a terrific trilogy full of humor, mystery and romance. Nora Roberts' talent shines with these tales!

Wonderful ending to a great series.,

Thank you to Ms. Roberts for a wonderfully written series with three very different women. This book is a great conclusion to the Stars of Mithra series. Grace is believed to be dead, but she isn't. Police Lieutenant Seth Buchanan now has to try and keep her alive as the person who killed her cousin by mistake is still trying to get her. The characters in this novel could be real, and that makes this novel even more enjoyable. Ms. roberts has a talent for describing feelings in a way most can't. You will feel what the characters feel. Don't miss this dramatic conclusion. It will keep you guessing about one thing or another right to the end.

A bad ending to a good series,

I loved the first 2 in this trilogy. I finished both Hidden Star and Captive Star in one weekend. I wish I had stopped there. I liked Grace (the heroine of this book) better when she was just casually discussed by the other characters. Once we actually meet her, I have a hard time understanding how Bailey and MJ could be best friends with her. She is calculating and conniving. She tries to manipulate people by using sex appeal. I wasn't really fond of the hero, but I thought he deserved better than Grace. I gave this 2 stars only because it closes off the trilogy. If this book had been a stand alone book, I would have rated it 1 star.

No runs, no hits, readers left on base,
By A Customer
This review is from: Secret Star (The Stars Of Mithra) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Roberts is fond of baseball, as evidenced in many of her books, and many of those books are home runs if not real grand slams, but she struck out with The Stars of Mithra. Secret Star was the weakest of the weak series. Roberts generally creates such good heroes and heroines that readers will overlook lacks or errors in plot details, but hackneyed and/or unbelievable characters--and, in this installment, a downright silly one like Grace--point out the flaws rather than hide them. Among other things, Roberts needs to better research police procedure and little details like the fact that .38s don't have have clips, but most of all she needs to spend more time executing the game plan for a book and making sure she doesn't make an easy out, leaving readers stuck on base instead of running across the plate of a satisfying read. Nobody wants to see a major leaguer sent back down to the minors.

While I read the first two books in one night...it tooks me weeks to finish Secret Star. I even read three books in between ): The first two in this series were exciting and the romances were developed much better than Seth and Grace's. I didn't care for Grace, especially. And the whole past lives thing thrown in at the end was unbelievable...I don't care for the villain being so quickly and clumsily introduced it left me just wanting to end the book and find out more about MJ and Bailey which I would have loved to hear more about. Finish the series, but don't expect a compelling read...
