4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Expect Ambrosia, December 23, 2005
This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
This may very well be the best pop/jazz CD that has come out in 2005. The title track is superb with Ann Wilson. It along with the remakes of Biggest Part Of Me and You're The Only Woman have received a good deal of airplay on the radio. My favorites are Vertical Disbelief (That's Not Me) and Everlasting. This CD also has guest appearances by Steve Perry (Journey), Dewey Bunnell (America), Timothy B. Schmidt (Eagles) and of course his good friend David Benoit. You won't be disappointed with this one. Just don't expect the progressive rock sounds of Ambrosia. That type of music is probably gone forever. Thankfully, David Pack's lively voice is still around to remind us of a time that seems so long ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - It's Here, August 11, 2005
This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
David Pack may be remembered by some as "that guy from Ambrosia" - and that's not necessarily a bad thing. However, since he went solo he has grown so much. He has written, sung with and produced some of the biggest and best in the business - and he has earned a lot of respect from all corners.

"The Secret of Movin' On" shows that respect starting on the cover. The cover is original artwork by Bernie Taupin (Elton John's writing partner). It is titled "Verticle Disbelief" (same as the second track of the cd)

Pack's friends show up to help him out on several tracks, starting with Anne Wilson of Heart on the title track - beautiful and such a strong opener.

Next is Dewey Bunnel of America on track 4 "Tell Her GoodBye" - a bluesy number that sits very well with everything around it

Track 5 "A Brand New Start" features a vocal duet with the song's co-writer Steve Perry - yes THAT Steve Perry - his voice has been greatly missed, however you cannot miss it here. Pack and Perry's voices work so well together - very textured. The songwriting is superior as well.

The 8th track "Where We Started From" features Pack with Timothy B. Schmidt of the Eagles and Poco. Schmidt has always had such a fine ear for harmonies and it shows here - one of the sweetest voices I have ever heard. Schmidt also duets with David on track 3 "Biggest Part of Me" which is a remake of the song David originally wrote and performed with Ambrosia. Here it has a surprising Latin flavor to it - and it works.

Track 6 "You're The Only Woman" is another remake of a song originally written and performed with Ambrosia.

The rest of the cd is quality all the way.

Do yourself a favor and buy it - you won't be disappointed

Absolutely fantastic album. Tasteful and well produced. David is singing better than ever and the other artists spotlighted only compliment the album and it's ambience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Waiting For!, August 19, 2005

This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
In August 2004, David Pack made a surprise guest appearance during the Benoit/Freeman set at the KWJZ Smooth Jazz Festival in Seattle. When he took the stage the crowd went nuts! He sounded GREAT, and we all knew that "Pack was back". The positive energy of that wonderful moment has carried over into this CD! David's voice is better than ever, and his compositional skills seem even more sophisticated and mature. Also, he has surrounded himself with a number of major talents who have also "stood the test of time"(Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, Dewey Bunnell and Timothy B. Schmidt as featured vocalists). Musical support from Eric Marienthal, Russ Freeman and David Benoit further complements David's multiple talents. David's early hits with Ambrosia continue to be some of my all time favorite songs, and its great to hear his updated versions of "Biggest Part of Me" and "You're the Only Woman". I'm on my 4th listen and this just gets better & better. There is a nice variety of styles here, but overall fits into adult contemporary with some songs destined for smooth jazz airplay. I strongly recommend this album for long time Pack fans (and those who will become fans after hearing this great music). I look forward to David continuing to share his melodies and lyrics, along with his terrific vocals and musicianship. Its so good to hear him again!

5.0 out of 5 stars David Pack-Incredible Singer/Songwirter, October 12, 2005
This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
I have always loved David Packs voice and songwriting and this release is no acception. The new songs have some great melody lines and lyrics along with some cool guest appearances by Steve Perry and Timothy B Schmidt on backing vocals. The new versions of the classic Ambrosia songs " Your The Only Woman " and "The Biggest Part Of ME " have just enough of a rhythm change to make them fresh and new. I'm not saying they needed something new but these versions make them new again.

This is a CD that you put in and listen to the whole thing all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Pack-A pleasant surprise!, September 10, 2005

I actually bought this CD because Steve Perry was on one of the songs with David. But after I listened to the whole CD it was surprising that the whole CD is Great. The two remakes from the Ambrosia songs are even better than the originals. Nobody will go wrong buying this one. Especially Steve Perry fans. He is awesome with David Pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars MOVING ON. . ., August 17, 2005
This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
At one point, DP had a brief message on his website mentioning that he was no longer with Ambrosia because he'd been "disrespected" by his former singing partners. I never heard any more of it. Perhaps this album is his answer.

Moving on is right because that is EXACTLY what he did. DP's album is a winner with solid lyrics, music, and of course, his voice; which only got better with time.

Who would believe that the original "Biggest Part of Me" came out about 23 years ago? He sounds just as good, if not better, on his remake. The same goes for "You're The Only Woman". We certainly know whose songs those are - LOL!

The new songs aren't hurting, either. The title track got me hooked and the rest of the album just flowed naturally. It appears DP is feeling jazz these days and I am feeling it right along with him. Because I played this on the way to sleep last night and am still playing it here at work as I write this review.

Looking for some good music from an artist; as opposed to some computer-enhanced "studio voice"? Look no further! DP writes, sings, plays instruments AND produces. And what a job he does with it all! And help from friends such as Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, etc. does not hurt.

Welcome back, Mr. Pack. . .We certainly have missed you!!!

I really enjoy listening to this CD. There are some old songs from the Ambrosia days - reworked in ways that make them even more enjoyable. The new material is well done and features some outstanding guests (such as Steve Perry and David Benoit). I highly recommend this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Most Welcome Comeback, December 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Secret Of Movin' On (Audio CD)
Listening to this album makes me realize how much I missed Pack's singular songwriting and singing voice. These are wonderful and professionally excecuted adult contemporary songs that have that trademark Pack touch: terrific harmonies, stellar musicianship, and a subtle warmth that sticks with you and grows deep inside.

This is an album of collaborations, and they work very well. The opening track with Ann Wilson is terrific and sets a great mood. "Vertical Disbelief" is quite nice. And the two Ambrosia remakes (Biggest Part of Me and You're the Only Woman) are tasteful and mature updates that furnish new interpretive subleties while retaining the sweetness of the originals.

I definitely want more.

David Pack's band Ambrosia, disbanded for the second time not too long ago(they first disbanded in 1982 and reformed in 1989). Pack is practically celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of Ambrosia's album ONE EIGHTY,with new versions of BIGGEST PART OF ME and YOU'RE THE ONLY WOMAN on this great album. The new versions with updated percussions, sound basically the same as the originals. Pack also does a duet with Journey frontman Steve Perry on another track. Pack's fans can also visit davidpack.com. The other songs are great. Hopefully,Ambrosia will once again reform.
