An absolute disgrace of the highest degree,
This review is from: The Secret Of NIMH 2 - Timmy To The Rescue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Robert C. O'Brien would be deeply offended at such a disgusting piece of garbage. He's probably turning in his grave right now. As for Don Bluth, he probably cried when he saw it, as it trashed his legacy for the next generation. As a serious Secret of NIMH enthusiast, I find the film to be a gross manifestation of the phrase "You killed it." I watch the fisrt movie on DVD at home, praying that children who are at the age I was when i was first touched by the film aren't watching this cheap trash. How can an animated film be this bad, you ask? Read the books, Watch the first movie, and you will be as appalled as I am. What was MGM thinking? Is this how they repay the greatest feat of animation their sorry corporation has ever witnessed? By trashing it? Uh uh. I think MGM owes the NIMH community, the children whose ideas of film they just warped, and most of all, Don Bluth, a BIG apology... Nevermind the Amazon rating, I give it negative 5 stars, if that.

Catastrophe,
By Pedro (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret of NIMH 2 - Timmy to the Rescue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ok, the first movie had excellent animation, a great story, and NO SINGING. This sequel, not only was it completely off the story of the first movie, but Timmy was just the sick little mouse in the first one. It completely goes in a different direction from the first movie. I just wish I could give this movie a negative amount of stars

Noticed all those other reviews that say, "I wish I could give this movie a negative amount of stars?" There are a million horrible reasons for this. What a freaking joke. Somebody find me the exact coordinates of Thorn Valley while I build a nuke?Ignore shills and five-year-olds who give this movie the highest possible rating. It will cause internal bleeding with its sheer stupidity. There are no elements of the book in this movie. There are no elements of the original movie in this movie. I suspect the whole thing was a fevered dream swirling in the brain of gravely ill Timothy. If that's the case, Timmy, DIE ALREADY!

I am in awe.,

Why am I awed? Because this movie was so... incredibly bad that it makes my stomach turn. I mean, you have to go out of your way to make such a bad film! I do believe they must've been TRYING to make a bad movie! This movie was literally ten levels of garbage. Timmy would've been better off if he died.

A True Must See,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret of NIMH 2 - Timmy to the Rescue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A True must see as far as wanting to see bad sequils go...it's only a shame that I can't rate a movie with less than a star. This was the bottom as far as I'm concerned. I read the origional book...and the first movie wasn't that acurate, but it was still a good movie. But what MGM did (or what it seems) took the worst parts of the first movie and made a sequil out of them. There was too much emphasis on Jonathan Brisby...first, it wasn't just Jonathan who saved the rats....it was he and Mr Ages. (read the book) Nicodemus was not a profit...at most he was an alchemist...and he didn't die in the book (read for yourself) The Rats of NIMH were larger than normal rats, let alone mice...so why was Timothy close in size to the rats? There was too much singing. Why were the rats still stealing from man? Wasn't this why they went to thorn valley? NIMH isn't an evil place...It's an institute for science....and they experemented with drugs...not electricity. What ever happened to Don Bluth anyways?? Was the idea of this movie to TAKE AWAY from the first....because if it was, it surely accomplished this. The only refining quality was that it did something with the lost six mice. I didn't say that I liked the direction they took, but they did do something. And I will once again say it, If you haven't yet read the book, do so. If you have kids you want to entertain, try reading it to them instead of turning on the television...your kids will like it more if you read to them.

There are so many flaws that I can't rank on them all. Buy the original SECRET OF NIMH because it's everything this film isn't, besides being well written, animated, and most important of all, entertaining!!!!!!

Inferior direct-to-video sequel to animated classic,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret Of NIMH 2 - Timmy To The Rescue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a sequel to Don Bluth's brilliant animated film, The Secret of Nimh, this direct-to-video release is a miserable flop. As an animated film on its own, it has a few good ideas, but they are weighted down by the pitiful execution. This film was not produced by Don Bluth or anyone who had anything to do with the original film, and it shows both storywise and animation-wise. The plot and animation aren't much better than 80's Saturday morning cartoons, and there are numerous inconsistencies with the original film (too many for me to list here). Also, Nimh can do without being turned into a musical; the songs are, for the most part, good, but they're in the wrong movie; almost NONE of them fit in with the universe of the first movie. For that matter, most of the new characters (Cecil the caterpillar, Dr. Valentine, the henchcats Muriel and Floyd) don't fit in with the universe of the first movie, either. As a sequel, it's embarrasing. As a film on its own, it's just a below average animated film.

As Dumb as it Comes,
This review is from: The Secret of NIMH 2 - Timmy to the Rescue (DVD)
OMG, what happened to the story?! Okay, if it would have followed the example of the FIRST movie, it may have been acceptable, but this was just...sucky.
For one, why did it need a bunch of crappy songs? Why does everything animated have to be a stupid sing-a-long now? Why can't we just have movies without the characters breaking out into song? I'm sorry, though there were interesting parts in the movie, overall, it was just crappy. It is probably fine for little kids, but for someone who actually grew up enjoying the first movie, this is a pretty big yuck.

What is this?!,
This review is from: The Secret of NIMH 2 - Timmy to the Rescue (DVD)
It's basically expected you'll be given a bad movie when a sequel is made. There haven't been any decent sequels in the animation department save for "Toy Story 2" (my opinion of course), but I never knew that there would be a poster child for bad movies. And we have this rotgut junk, "Timmy to the Rescue." The animation is like a TV series based off of a Disney Movie that has been chopped about to fit your DVD. The mice are huge compared to the mice in the first movie, and there is no real plot to this that I found fun at all. The so-called twist in the end where Martin exposes himself to be the evil creature behind NIHM was poorly done at best, with songs that are so irritating, I immediately scrambled for the mute button.
There was one thing that annoyed me in watching this. Besides stupid characters, sub-par voice acting, and lame dialogue, is that the voices sometimes don't sync well with the lip movements. For instance, when Martin is talking to Timmy, his lips sometimes move after he is finished talking, and sometimes the lips stop before the sentence ends. Was the movie done in a different language first, then dubbed to suit the English-speaking audience, or was that another finger pointed at the producers for bad animation? So and so, I recommend that you don't see this movie. Don't even get it for your kids. This movie pales in comparison to the original in so many ways.

They took one of the finest animated movies ever created and dredged up this for a sequel. Truly awful, and an insult to the creators of "Secret of NIMH" and anyone who loves it.Buy the original instead. |
