4.0 out of 5 stars The Spectaculous Secret Of Nimh
I recommend this book for readers who like action and suspense both in one book. This book is about some rats that became smarter and escaped from a laboratory to form a colony. A widow named Mrs. Frisby, who is trying to save her son Timmy from pneumonia. She meets the rats and the adventure begins! I like the part when Mrs. Frisby and the rats of Nimh try to get out of...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Spectaculous Secret Of Nimh, December 11, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Secret of Nimh (Paperback)
I recommend this book for readers who like action and suspense both in one book. This book is about some rats that became smarter and escaped from a laboratory to form a colony. A widow named Mrs. Frisby, who is trying to save her son Timmy from pneumonia. She meets the rats and the adventure begins! I like the part when Mrs. Frisby and the rats of Nimh try to get out of the burrow when the Nimh staff, try to gas them out. I give this book a rating of 5 stars. 4th through 6th graders would enjoy this book a lot. I suggest teachers use this book as a unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book (and serries), January 4, 2000
This review is from: The Secret of Nimh (Paperback)
I've read the whole series and I have to say that I love them all! This is one series I want to collect to share with my future children. They're timeless tales that should be counted among the few great classics! I do not agree with some that would say this could give a child nightmares, it is a great series that is by no means bad for young children. My mom read it to me and my sibs when we were young and we loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting, adventurous book on the Rats of NIMH, November 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret of Nimh (Paperback)
I think that Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is an exciting book on a loving mother trying to get help for her family by the Rats of NIMH. She has to get her home (a small cinder block in Mr. Fitzgibbons vegetable patch) out of the garden before the plow comes. I loved this book! It was fun figuring out how they were going to it and I would read it a million times if I had to. I think you should read this book just because you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Enjoy!

This is a children's book, but adults will enjoy giving it a read now and then. I. It is not a book about magic, but it has magical and somewhat mystical elements woven into it, seamlessly blending with a believable reality. It is good writing, plain and simple, and while the story is anything but plain and simple, it is easy to follow. The complexity is useful in furthering the story and only adds to the suspense, believability and exciting pace of the tale. Even younger children, say, 8 or 9 year-olds, will stay glued to this book like I did some 15 years ago.

Mrs Frisby has a problem. Her son Timothy is diagnosed with pneumonia. He must stay in bed for at least three weeks and moving day is drawing closer! She meets a young crow named Jeremy who introduces her to an owl who could help her with her problems. He recognises her surname and sends her to the Rats. The next day she journeys to the Rosebush where they live. The Rats are super intelligent animals who have escaped from the Laborotory of Nimh. She finds out that her husband (Mr Jonathan Frisby) was a part of the escape. Together with their sophisticated methods, the Rats move her house to a safe place where the tractor won't plough. She can now stay in her home for as long as she wants - until Timothy is well. The laborotory finds the Rats and they gas the Rosebush. By this time the Rats were already settling in their new home.

This review is from: The Secret of Nimh (Paperback)
Well written and thoroughly engrossing tale about the magic rats of Mrs. Frisbes farm, who have created a society in secret in a mysterious bush. A well developed plot with plenty of action, mystery, and magic that readers of any age will enjoy. Excellent art and simple but beautiful prose, and a perfect bedtime story for your young one to satisfy for many nights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story!, October 28, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Secret of Nimh (Paperback)
I read this book in class (at school) and I felt it was very touching. I'm a reading maniac, and I liked this book probably as much as the Harry Potter series,(and I LOVE Harry Potter) The author, Robert C. O' Brian, gives you a disaster following another, each with a miraculous solution. He makes it seem like you are just one of the mice or rats inside the book. I loved it, and I think all future readers of this story will, too.

I just finished reading this book with my 5th grade son (required for literature circle), and we both loved it. He had to read 3 chapters a night and in the beginning I thought I was going to be bored with it (we read together). Boy, was I wrong! I loved the story Nicodemus told to Mrs. Frisby about NIMH. I want to add this book to our home library and find any other sequels and read them too!
