This review is from: The Secret Notebooks of Sherlock Holmes (Hardcover)
While reading this book, it becomes very easy to see why June Thomson's books go UP in value, not down. I have managed to collect three volumes of her short stories only because two volumes were re-published in paperback. Those I have. Since I bought my copy of this book, it has doubled in value. Why? The quality of the stories is at least equal to the original ones. And they are the stories that Watson hinted at in the canon, but never published. I have read many interpetations of these stories by various authors, but Ms. Thomson holds to the writing style of the good doctor. I believe the Conan Doyle Estate would agree. But by now, people should expect the Raven to find fault with something. That's what a review is all about-- Criticism. In this case it's the annoying list of reasons why Watson isn't going to publish the case. (The same holds true for the other books I mentioned.) It kind of takes away from the story. But I really enjoy the three books I have, and wish I could afford the other two. That's how good these stories are! Quoth the Raven...

A treat for detective story fans,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret Notebooks of Sherlock Holmes (Hardcover)
Former teacher and prolific mystery author June Thompson presents The Secret Notebooks Of Sherlock Holmes, an enthralling assembly of stories exquisitely crafted to mesh with the life story of the world's most famous fictional detective. Presented as a hidden collection of writings that Dr. Watson hid to protect the reputations of the good and not-so-good people that he and Holmes encountered in their line of work, The Secret Notebooks Of Sherlock Holmes ventures into the realms of deception, intrigue, high stakes and often the grim ruthlessness of criminals determined to carry out their plan. A treat for detective story fans in general and a "must read" title for dedicated Sherlock Holmes fans in particular, The Secret Notebooks Of Sherlock Holmes is written in a style that is as reminiscent as possible of Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes classics while remaining easy to assimilate by contemporary readers.
