5.0 out of 5 stars The Secret of the Old Clock: 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (Nancy Drew)
I read this when I was a girl. Now I'm a (young) great-grandmother. I loved it when I first read it and purchased it for my granddaughter hoping it would inspire a life long love of reading for her as it did for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT the ORIGINAL TEXT but the REVISED edition- POOR choiceby the publishers for the 80th.
If you are going to publish an 80th anniversary edition then why oh why choose to use the revised text edition? This review is from: The Secret of the Old Clock: 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (Nancy Drew) (Hardcover)
If you are going to publish an 80th anniversary edition then why oh why choose to use the revised text edition? Fans of the series will NOT be happy as this is the REVISED TEXT edition and is readily available elsewhere. So just slap a pretty picture on the cover, make it a hardback edition and call it the anniversary edition? What do the publishers think the average reader is - a fool?! I am not impressed with this and it truly is a disservice to the entire series. It could have been so much more and yet it seems to have been put together on the cheap side to save money. Not worthy of a special anniversary edition. It should have been done using the original text with glossy pictures and perhaps a nice intro and retrospect on the Nancy Drew series. Avid readers of the series will be left frustrated at the lack of care by the publishers. Then again, haven't we all been disappointed with how the series has progressed?!

this 80th anniversary edition will appeal to collectors and or a youngster just starting the Nancy Drew series. The cover makes it collectible, as it simply contains the revised text of the first ND title without fanfare or extras.

3.0 out of 5 stars 'Grown up' but fine for young readers, October 3, 2011
This review is from: The Secret of the Old Clock: 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (Nancy Drew) (Hardcover)
As a librarian I recommend The Secret of the Old Clock to my students based on how much I enjoyed it 50 years ago. I do wonder at its appeal for today's readers because it is rather archaic! But who could resist cheerful Nancy Drew and her unbounded energy? Even without the reread, I recall the lovely clothes Nancy wore and the car she drove. Although superficial, the story clips along with an array of interesting characters and bright descriptors over a good mystery. As for the "80th Anniversary Edition"? Give me the old yellow cover with the picture of Nancy kneeling down to pry open the face of the old clock! Nancy is eighteen and drives a car, but will charm tweens who want something more grown up to read. The elegance in the prose is still refreshing. Love that word `sleuth'!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew's ongoing appeal is celebrated in an edition with a new cover for ages 8 and up, June 19, 2010
This review is from: The Secret of the Old Clock: 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (Nancy Drew) (Hardcover)
Carolyn Keene's THE SECRET OF THE OLD CLOCK appears in a fine 80th anniversary limited edition to celebrate the ongoing interest in a heroine whose books have been published in 25 languages. Nancy Drew's ongoing appeal is celebrated in an edition with a new cover for ages 8 and up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, September 7, 2010

This review is from: The Secret of the Old Clock: 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (Nancy Drew) (Hardcover)
I agree with the first reviewer. What a disappointment to see the revised text and a poor presentation to boot. An 80th anniversary edition deserved better.

The Applewood Books reprints are closer to what this anniv edition should have been. For those interested in reading the original text, I recommend it.

This G&D reprint is not worthy of adding to my collection.
