Lyrics To the Fore,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Secret Paths (Audio CD)
Something I've noticed about some of the more obscure titles listed on amazon annoys me: a paucity of useful album information. How in the world do sellers expect to sell their merchandise if potential buyers can find very little information about it?
Well, despite a lack of information about Secret Paths, I bought it anyway because Dave Cousins rarely disappoints. And so it is once again. Secret Paths is very different from the last Dave Cousins album I bought. Here, the lyrics are paramount and the music serves mainly to help him paint vivid pictures with them. That's not to say there is no compelling music here, there is, but with Secret Paths, its lyrics to the fore! The CD contains eleven songs that give the listener just over a three-quarters of an hour of folky music with a strong steel-guitar driven country component. My favorites are The Shepherd's Song, I Turned My Face Into The Wind, Ringing Down The Years, the lovely Canada which should be its unofficial anthem, and I'll Show You Where To Sleep. Hard-core fans of Dave Cousins will be most likely to appreciate this beautiful, tasteful, and very subdued collection of songs. The CD comes with a booklet featuring pertinent album information and lyrics to all the songs. What more could you want?
