The Best,
By
This review is from: Secret Place of Thunder (Cheney Duvall, M.D. Series #5) (Book 5) (Paperback)
This was in my opinion, the best book in the series. The setting is absolutely captivating and it makes the whole story take on an interesting, refreshing air. For me as a Christian, the part with the voodoo priestess was very thought provoking. The part also showed that Shiloh still had some major weaknesses and supports Cheney's later reasons for keeping her distance from him in the area of romance. The aunts were well-written, lovable and sometimes humorous characters. You won't want to miss the funny part later on in the book that invloves Shiloh and hairpins.

This review is from: Secret Place of Thunder (Cheney Duvall, M.D. Series #5) (Book 5) (Paperback)
I have read all five of the Cheney Duvall books published at this time, and this is by far the best in the series. Secret Place of Thunder takes the reader to the bayous of Louisiana, where Cheney and Shiloh begin recuperating from their last adventure. They stay at Les Chattes Bleus, the indigo plantation owned by Cheney's great-aunts. Cheney is called there because the indigo is mysteriously dying. Then the sharecroppers begin to get sick... This exciting novel takes the reader into the dark bayous of 19th century Louisiana, into the tumoltuous soul of a man of God who questions his faith, and into the evil world of voodoo..

I really liked this book! I have been hooked on this series since they first came out, and now I am even more hooked!! I liked how the authors led into the next book by establishing the setting, that really leaves you hanging, but in a good way! For you new comers to the series, this is one of the best line of books I have ever read.
The morals are great, but the authors do not "preach" to you.
The book is about a female doctor and her nurse after the Civil War and how she is trying to make it as a woman doctor. (By the way her nurse is a male.)
This book will keep you going along and laughing while you read! I advise it for people of all age

Great story:ghosts, mystery, romance. However, an interpreter would be nice. Or even a footnote translation.

This book introduces several new characters that you'll get to know as well as the main characters in the 4 previous books. It takes place at a Louisiana plantation owned by Cheney's great-aunts Marye and Elyse.Aunt Elyse is sometimes absent-minded, but is funny and loveable. Aunt Marye, in contrast, seems overly strict, but deep down loves her visiting relatives and their friends. The lovestruck Chloe, a daughter of Aunt Elyse and Aunt Marye's butler and cook, chases after Shiloh so openly that I wanted to smack her, but she gets what she deserves in the end, especially when they discover she's helping the voodoo group trying to take over the plantation.

This is an excellent series and I enjoyed this book especially. The chapter where the family prepares to "fight against the powers and pricipalities" was well written, showing the importance of faith and honesty. I am anxiously awaiting #8, what will happen between Cheney and Shilo next? If you like this book check out "The Covenant of Love", also by Gilbert Morris.

Cheney Duvall has been my favorite fictional charactar ever since I picked up the first book in this series! I can't recommend these books more. Secret Place Of Thunder has really touched all the bases concerning everything I have come to expect from Gilbert Morris, and now his daughter Lynn. I think that it deals with the Spiritual side of life much more than any of the previous books. it also takes the characters in the book to whole new levels, and it deepens their relationships through the circumstances they are placed in. I have read the two newest books in this series, but I think I still like this one the best. I give it Five stars, all the way!
