5.0 out of 5 stars When Your Very Soul Hits The Wall...
You might want to have this non-pious but incredibly inspirational book handy. It will mystically...and miraculously encourage you to pick up your rosary and pray - in perhaps a very different and more powerful way than you have ever done before. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I thought
I thought this book would focus more on how to pray the rosary but the title holds true to the secrets of the rosary. BUT the set up of the book is not easy to understand the chapters or know where to look for info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incomparable...just a wonderful book!, August 22, 2004
This is a little bit of pious reading you will return to again and again. Although the writing style may make it somewhat dated, the truths that come forth are just as potent today as they were when this was first written. Vatican II types who have tried to reduce devotion to Mary to something optional and outdated will hopefully have their eyes opened wide after reading this, and re-discover why the Rosary is, after the Mass, the most powerful prayer the Holy Catholic Church posseses. Miss this book at your soul's peril!

Wow, this book was a real eye-opener for me in a subtle, yet convincing way, which has only served to strengthen my faith. I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in learning more about why the Catholic church holds the Virgin Mary in such high regard and why every single person should too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best and most helpful books of Christian prayer, ever, April 28, 2009
One of the things I love most about the Catholic Church is that it is both divinely mystical and earthily practical at the same time, and I think "The Secret of the Rosary" by the French saint Louis de Montfort is one of the books that illustrates that thought the best.

"The Secret of the Rosary" not only teaches a person what the rosary is and how to pray it, but also how it feeds the soul. And then it goes on to tell readers how best to implement the prayers and meditations of the rosary so that they can grow closer to Jesus and strengthen their souls.

It is a really interesting and informative book -- inspiring, too! It is laid out in small chunks so that you can take a ten minute dip into it, absorb what you've read and carry on from there. Every time I read a small section, I come away feeling refreshed and renewed in my spirit. It gives me a real hunger to pray the rosary (which is a meditation on the life of Jesus Christ) with attention and deovtion.

Since it was written well over two hundred years ago, St. Louis's style of writing might seem a bit odd at first: He lived during a time when a flowery turn of phrase was greatly admired. It may seem rather quaint to a modern reader. However, the good saint's personality shines through and you almost feel as if he's sitting across the table from you, speaking to you personally. You'll get used to the style very quickly and if you're like most people I know who have read and recommended this book to me, you'll come to find it very cozy and comforting.

I highly recommend this book, as well asThe Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of Saint Therese of Lisieux for another homey, sweet and inspiring book by another French saint.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Precious Treasure for Today's Wacky World, August 28, 2009
This review is from: The Secret of the Rosary (Paperback)
When St. Louis de Montfort wrote this book in the early 1700s, times were tough. Living today as Christians, as Catholics, these fifty roses explained therein help us to live a closer and more intimate life with Jesus through Mary. By listening to the Holy Spirit, St. Louis' writing sheds much light on those who read, reflect and take to heart these teachings. "Where sin abounds, grace abounds even more." This little book is full of graces for us.

This book is so important that I have given it as a gift to newlyweds. Our young deserve to know the great treasure we have in the Rosary and the great means it is for our sanctification and salvation.

An appendix includes the Luminous Mysteries our beloved John Paul II was inspired to write. As a leader of the Rosary before Sunday Mass, I was reminded-and need now to remind those who pray it with me-that we gain a Plenary Indulgence by reciting the Rosary together in Church as long as we fulfill the requirements. A family praying the rosary together also is granted this wonderful grace (See page 239).

This little book should be shared with our family, friends, Godchildren, students - all those our God sends us. Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary, our Queen and Mother, pray for us. St. Louis de Montfort, pray for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secret of the Rosary, October 21, 2008

This review is from: The Secret of the Rosary (Paperback)
My understanding of the Rosary has always been a little limited. This book which was written in the early 1700's is as up-to-date as any writing of today. I have found it to be very helpful in my private recitations of the Rosary prayers to Jesus and Mary. My prayers seemed to have taken on a life as I meditate on the Mysteries. It's a great book to have found.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone devoted to Mary should own this book!, April 3, 2000
EVERYONE who is devoted to our Spiritual Mother should have this book. It gives fifty different "roses" or meditations on the mysteries of the Rosary.

Trust me on this. St. Louis is the master of True Devotion to Mary. After all, St. Louis is where JP2 gets his motto, "Totus Tuus"!
