Review

Each of the characters is well-defined and smartly tied to a past that readers will enjoy whether they have seen the on-air show or not...For the fans of "Days of Our Lives" who have missed the high romance and glamour of the 1980s and 1990s stories told so well on-air – you will enjoy this face paced and descriptive novel- while also recognizing the caring treatment that can only come from someone as unique and talented as the former head writer and creative consultant for many years for the on-air program. (DaysTalk 20101209)

You get some closure to a few of the stories that were left hanging a few years ago on Days of Our Lives and some new ones are opened up which will hopefully be explored further in the next two books in the Trilogy; A Stirring in Salem due for release in February 2011 and A Scandal in Salem scheduled for release in May 2011.

(What's The Buzz 20101208)

I did like the twist on how all the story lines intertwined with each other. This is what I like about Days of Our Lives...the nice story lines. (Cheryl's Book Nook 20101219)

Rich drama with a compelling storyline - you won't be disappointed...This book is almost like watching the show right before your eyes. It's titillating, with a riveting plot and complex yet passionate characters.

(Minding Spot 20110606)

Sheri Anderson knows her way around Salem and this book is sure to delight any fans in your life.

(Examiner.com )

Decent mystery and romance, this was a fun read. (Palmer's Picks for Reading )

"A Secret in Salem" is the perfect book to take along during your summer vacation, as you can escape to another world, while encountering memorable characters along the way. Readers who are not familiar with the "Days of our Lives" alumni, but enjoy romance, action and adventure, will likely enjoy this interesting and well-written novel, too. (PopCultureGuy )

1 SHAWN AND BEL LE

Although he'd been halfway around the world, Shawn Douglas Brady had never seen a fleet of ships like this one. While the blue-and-green-striped sails of his 45-foot Nicholson were usually impressive, he felt like a moth in the midst of monarch butterflies. But then, he was in Monte Carlo, the playground of the rich and famous.

Surrounded by Italy and France, it had the smallest, most exciting beachfront in the world at only 3.5 miles. Occupying only 1 square mile of land, the principality was considered the gem of the Riviera, if not the world.

Monte Carlo? Were they really there? It had been over a year since he and his wife had left Salem-on the yacht the Fancy Face IV, bought for them by Belle's magnanimous father, John Black-for their adventure. Shawn, the handsome but oft-troubled son of two of Salem's finest, had married the blonde spitfire Belle and then had an adorable daughter, Claire. But Belle had often fallen through the cracks in their social circle, which was dominated by her manipulative and malevolent half sister, Sami. So she was thrilled to take to the high seas. They needed an escape, and John knew that seeing the world from this vantage point would give his daughter and son-in-law a new perspective.

"Belle, get up here!" Shawn shouted excitedly. "You and Claire have to see this!"

A curly-haired moppet popped out from the galley.

"Mommy's in the head, Da'!" Claire squealed.

"Then you get up here, now!"

Shawn grabbed his daughter and hoisted the little girl onto the beautifully defined shoulders that topped his sinewy, tanned body. Claire giggled and pointed at the mass of sailboats, cruisers, and yachts that filled the harbor. "Wow." Claire giggled. "Even bigger than in Crete! Those sure aren't 'stinkpots.'"

Belle made her way up from below. Though a bit wobbly, when she looked around her, she was totally overwhelmed.

"Unbelievable." She gasped.

"Both the scene and our daughter. For a three-year-old, she's a well-traveled little girl."

"Not little, Da. And I'm four-almost!"

Belle, looking a lovely shade of chartreuse, stroked her daughter's hair.

"How you feeling?" Shawn asked carefully.

She smiled wanly. "As good as I look?"

Uh-oh, Shawn thought.

"But-damned excited to be here."

Shawn knew why. One of those yachts would later be holding a lavish sweet-sixteen party for Dalita Kasagian, the daughter of überrich Serge Kasagian, and Belle's fashion idol was going to be there.

"Olivia Marini Gaines," he stated emphatically. "OMG."

With that, Belle puked all over the deck of the yacht.

If you are a fan of the iconic DAYS OF OUR LIVES you know exactly what to expect from "A Secret in Salem"...However, if you are reading Sheri Anderson for the first time you can still get swept up in her excellent storytelling style. It delivers in every way possible. You will surely want to read all the forthcoming books from this series as they return the theme back to the glory days when DOOL was a top rated show. Maybe if DOOL brought Sheri back as head-writer the show might not be spiraling it's way to being the next soap on the chopping block.

In her debut novel, "A Secret in Salem," Sheri Anderson roars back to life with her incredible story telling and love for romance. Any fan of the long running soap opera, "Days of Our Lives," will enjoy this quick paced and exciting story. If you're a new fan of the show, this is a great place to begin your journey into the lives of many of Salem's finest residents.

Longtime fans of the show will be thrilled to see many of their favorites brought back to life in this new dramatic and exciting adventure. The opening of the book brings us to the lavish lands of the rich and famous in Monte Carlo, where we are met by Shawn Brady and Isabella Black, who have been sailing around the world with their young daughter, Claire. Elsewhere, John Black and Marlena Evans make an appearance in their new home in Switzerland. The struggle continues for John and Marlena as John works to regain the use of his legs after having been paralyzed for more than two years. Also on hand are Jack and Jennifer Deveraux, who are running "The Spectator," an online publication, with their young and up and coming journalist daughter, Abby and her best friend, Chelsea Brady.

Anderson introduces us to several key characters throughout the novel. The Gaines family is made up of the influential business mogul, Richard and fashion diva, Olivia, and their children Charlotte (aka, Charley), Jackson, and Chase. As the readers get to know these new characters, there is a great deal of mystery and suspense surrounding them. Through the personal turmoil and tragedy of the Gaines family, there is one incredible secret to be told that will change all of their lives forever.

Sheri is off to a great start in her "Salem's Secrets, Scandals, and Lies" series. I look forward to seeing where she takes everyone next.

A Secret in Salem: A Days Of Our Lives Novel by Sheri Anderson
copyright: 2010
Ppgs: 309

I love the short chapters, and the easy flow of reading. It was not overly done on the description and enough dialogue to help keep the reading easy and fast. I felt like I was watching episodes of Days, each chapter either a scene or even an episode.
I have been an avid fan of Days Of Our Lives since the early 1980's and was ecstatic to win a copy of this novel, and thrilled that it was a personalized autographed copy. I started reading and right away was able to picture the actors doing the scenes on the TV in my mind. Ms. Anderson not only knows the characters, but also knows and remembers how the actors portrayed them and their quirks. She never had a character act out of context from the show. She eloquently spoke of many of the sorely missed characters - including the death of Alice Horton. She introduced new characters in the form of a family and the people who worked with them and almost instantly, we had a rapport with them and cared about them or wanted to see them pay dearly for their actions.
I almost wanted to give Ms. Anderson a piece of my mind, when I believed she was taking two couples (all four are some of my favorite people from the show) and making them do things I wouldn't dream of them doing considering their past. However, I will leave those pieces of my mind private as she explained how and why they did or didn't do those things. I will say that the twist at the end was not to my liking, only because it can't be carried into the show. We do have to remember that the show is still in production and five days a week, we see some of these characters progress in their lives that is not reflected in the book.

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was clever to continue where the soap opera left off with two of the most appreciated characters on the show...Marlena Evans Black and John Black. It was fast-paced with a love story, of course, and also a mystery. I'm looking forward to reading the next two novels (as yet to be released.) I have pre-ordered them.

A Secret in Salem by Sheri Anderson
Contemporary Romance -Nov. 1st , 2010
4 stars

To retain viewers, television has taken the idea of publishing books related to popular series, of which I am now a convert. Sheri Anderson took pains to tie in the televised soap opera "Days of our Lives" characters into a real page turner that reminded me of the days before television.

Marlena, John, Jack, Jennifer et. al. make their prescribed appearances as the story revolves around a new character known simply as Charly. But much of the story centers around Salem's dynamic couple Marlena and John. John is somehow tangled in the web of deceit related to his archrival but still maintains a massive fortune and an armada of resources that exceeds belief. His archrival has taken liberties unbeknownst to our heroes and uses Charly in his plot. Charly is for the most part an innocent bystander blessed with Marlena's good looks.

I found the world of intrigue and mystery in between the pages of A Secret in Salem enthralling. The characters had a lot of depth and complexity. The author did justice to the Days of our Lives cast. Entertaining and easy to read. If you are a fan of the show I would highly recommend it.
