My son is a reluctant reader, but he couldn't put down this book. He loved the mystery and the puzzles to solve (rebus, unscramble the letters, decoding, maze, and crossword) as Pete and Penny uncover the clues to find the secret ingredient of the pizza sauce.

This is was a great book for 2nd grade or higher. I would definately be happy to buy the whole series. The puzzles were a nice reward, and motivation to keep on reading. The people in the book were respectful to one another, no name calling or rudeness like some other books for this age tend to aim for cheap laughs with bathroom humor. Great illustrations. It even gives the secret recipe at the end if you want to make the sauce at home!

What a great book! Both my 7yo son and daughter love it. Good plotline. The puzzles are fun, they test their comprehension, and keep them engaged. It's a chapter book format but has a few pictures throughout too. I think it's perfect for 1st grade. We have ordered the other 3 and I'm about to see if this author has written others. Definitely recommend this series!
