5.0 out of 5 stars "You can't judge a game by it's cover" is Wayyyyyy off !
I couldn't disagree with your comments above more strongly. I, a very long time 1st person shooter fan, found this game to be quite refreshing when compared to other similar titles. I agree that the Rainbow 6 series, OFP (patched, not the release version), and Half-Life are quality games, and I believe Secret Service is in their league.

This is one of the most entertaining, awsome first person shooters I've played, (right up there with the Delta Force series.) In my opinion, the strongest point of this game is the AI, lighting/shadowing, the physics (especially in wounding an enemy.) I don't know what kind of "introduction to gameplay" you want, but this game seemed very intuitive to me. The weapons are sweet! The missions kick a*& !
If you want a true 1st person shooter, this IS the game for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Potential, June 7, 2004

The high point of the game is its realistic physics and textures. For the game play it runs extremely smooth for me. All I have is a original AMD Thunderbird 1.2 Ghz with 512 DDR and a Radon 9000 Pro and I have absolutely no problems (XP Pro). Those of you who have HT P4's with tricked out nvida(s) and it runs choppy need to figure out what's up. This game has so much potential it not funny. With some tweaking what you have is a realistic version of CS. The sounds are better, the effects are great (e.x. flash bangs and explosions) I cant really ask for any more. As for the difficulty, those gamers who are used to being like Rambo and shoot'n em' up, no wonder why its so hard for you. You need to act like the SS not trigger happy Duke Nukem. Just try it out for yourself and see...

This is one of the most entertaining, awsome first person shooters I've played, (right up there with the Delta Force series.) In my opinion, the strongest point of this game is the AI, lighting/shadowing, the physics (especially in wounding an enemy.) One reviewer said that the enemies just fall over like stumps when you shoot them. I'm not sure if we're reviewing the same game; the death sequences are the most realistic I've seen. The only time they ever "fall over like stumps" is when you shoot them directly in the head, (in which case they're supposed to fall over like stumps.) The graphics are average/good, but the realism is far ahead of any other first person shooter I've played (though I haven't played them all.)
But the developers made one terrible mistake. There is no quick save option. You can't save positions during a level like almost all other first person shooters, only between the levels. I'm sure that one could argue that this adds to the realism of the game, but to me, this makes the game virtually impossible. There's a difference between a challenging game and a really frusterating game; it's just too hard. I (like many other reviewers it seems) can't even get past the first level on easy mode, (without cheat codes that is.) You can find the cheat codes on the internet through any search engine. I honestly don't know how the programers expected anyone to be able to beat this game otherwise. It's still a good game and alot of time was put into it.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Hardcore FPS Gamers only!, September 24, 2003

I got this game, because my friend gave it to me for my birthday. I was excited to play it so I installed it and started it. I started the first mission. It took me for like 3 days to complete the first mission! Gladly, the game started getting easier for me. I got to complete the whole game in about a month. I think it was definetly worth it for free (I got it from my friend). The real cost is $10.00 at Target. However, I think it's worth it for $10.00 too. This game had pretty good graphics, the gameplay was pretty good, and it's very hard but gets easier every mission. You can choose up to about 26 weapons including grenades and explosives. My favorite is the Ak-47. You can also play online if you have internet or LAN connection (no one plays online). MY recommended system requirment is pentium 3 700, 256mb RAM, 16mb video card, and a sound card. I ran this game on Celeron 2.6, 1025mb RAM, 128mb GeForce Ti 4600, no sound card and had no problem. I think you should get this game if you are a hardcore shooter fan. If you are not, don't get this game. Overall, this game is pretty good game for shooter fans and it probably will be worth it for $10.00 at Target. I really had fun with game even though it was the most hardest FPS I have ever played. It was also the most challenging and difficult, but enjoyable game I have ever played. P.S. I also highly recommend Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and No One Lives Forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Less than $20, and low sys req.'s - this game has it all..., December 1, 2003

Ever wanted to shoot the lights out in multiplayer and be a sneaky, low-down, camping dog in the dark? You can do that. Ever wanted to lean around the corner and put one between the turban and the unibrow? You can do that. Ever wanted to see your target get blown into a wall after you shoot him and watch him slide down the wall like a sack of wet mice? You can do that too! In fact, nearly every feature I have ever complained "wasn't" in an FPS... IS in Secret Service. For instance, how frustrating is it to shoot a guy and not see where you hit him? For me, VERY! This game will leave decals on not only the walls and objects, but on your opponent! Granted, they are black instead of bloody red, but I ain't complaining over color. The physics in this game are amazing for it's era, and the AI is brilliant. The baddies in this game can hear, see, and shoot. They dodge, duck, and run for cover. Those looking for eye candy won't find much beyond a game that is graphically comparable to Tactical Ops, but the game play is intense and will appeal to tactical fans more than fantasy freaks. I sure hope someone over at id, epic, raven, or valve is paying attention, because as I said in the title, this game definately has it all! Not one game to date can boast the features that this game offers, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be able to pull it off within Secret Service's system requirements. It runs like a raped chicken on nearly crap hardware. Run, don't walk to Target and fork over $5 for this clearence gem in a jewel case!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good fun, just don't take it too seriously, October 2, 2003

This review is from: Secret Service (CD-ROM)
I liked this game, while it isn't worth 20, if you can buy it for less you will feel satisfied. I personaly have had no computer problems with this game, no slowdown etc... I think the simulation of shooting the weapons is very cool. Especially the pistols. I'm really impressed with how cool that looked. Some of the long guns have tactical flashlights on them, which is also a cool feature.
One important thing to keep in mind, is that this game is a value title, it's not meant to run with rainbow six, swat 3 or soldier of fortune. It's cheap, and fun, but very simplistic. The cinematics are laughable, but hey...i only paid 10 dollars for the thing, what else can i expect.
The eninmies die in a "ragdoll" fashion. When you shooth them, they fall to the ground and get all limp....it's neat in its own way. They just plop dead to the ground....as if they had total neural shutdown.
The game can give you a really good feel of clearing rooms. The adition of shooting through walls is a nice feature, when in doubt, you can go against all training and good judgement and just pump a wall full of lead, enter the room and see that you cleared it from the hall... thats a wussy way to clear a room, but fun none-the-less.
My advice is buy the game if you can get it for 10 dollars or less, if it doesnt work on your computer, you're only out 1o bucks right? I also say, just use a cheat codes to get through the first 2 levels, it gets better after that. Judging the game from levels 1 and 2, i can see how people get a bad impression. Buy it for cheap, and just have fun with it.

A Kid's Review

ok, this game is awesome. If you like James Bond, Outtrigger, SWAT3, or just any shooting game at all then you better get this game. In the game you will go around with different missions and be a bodyguard of people. The only reason that I gave this game 4 stars is cause it's hard but it's VERY VERY fun, so get it...and get it fast

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game....But....., July 13, 2002

Alright, Secret Service is a good game, but there's definatly room for improvement. I too was looking for a SWAT type game where you have to train and learn to play, this isn't it. They throw you right into the game, which some people like, I don't. But once I started playing I began to like it. It's hard ..., which isn't great, but at least you get your money's worth as far as time spent on playing.
It seems as though my computer can handle the graphics so I can't complain there, but it is a very difficult game, but I think after the first level, it may get cool (although I have yet to spend more than 3min in the game without dying).

This is a very cool game and definitely is in the league of the other great FPS games out there today. The only problem that I have encountered that takes away from the fun, are the problems that I have even with somewhat of a fast computer. As the game progresses, it slows down due to the clutter of the people you kill etc...You definitely need 256RAM to truly enjoy the game the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Once you don't have to worry about the glitches, the environments are very cool and will keep you interested for a long time. The people are very realistic and have true to life physics in the way they fall when they are shot or blown up.
