Book Description

March 11, 2002
Iris and Steven Finz have an uncanny knack for getting people to talk about the intimate details of their sex lives. For more than a decade, they have been interviewing people from all segments of society and, with the permission of their subjects, passing the stories along to their readers. They've talked to regular housewives and hard-working husbands, confirmed bachelors, computer techies, nurses, ski instructors -- people from every walk of life -- to find out how they keep their sex lives fresh and exciting.

Their books about the sexual experiences and fantasies of real people have become standard night-table fare in bedrooms all around the world. Readers use them not only to add erotic parks to their own relationships, but also to develop a better understanding of the sexual behavior of others.

In Secret Sex: Real People Talk About Outside Relationships They Hide From Their Partners, the Finzes take an explicit and provocative look at sex outside a committed relationship. Through various tales of sexual adventures people keep hidden from their significant others, the Finzes reveal how extramarital sex sometimes damages or destroys a relationship, and sometimes helps or even strengthens it. Working to understand the sexual behavior of the people described in this book will help readers to better understand his or her own sexuality.

While we learn the most through observation, the civilized world provides little opportunity to observe others having sex. Consequently, many people form opinions based on the exaggerated worlds of novels and pornography. While these worlds are exciting, forming opinions based on fiction can lead to skewed perceptions of sexual behaviors occurring outside the realm of our own personal experience. In their unique approach, Iris and Steven Finz provide candid accounts and explicit information, both of which are essential to a true understanding of sexuality.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

"Earl and I have gotten together every few weeks for sex in the afternoon. I don't think my marriage is the least bit threatened by it. In fact, I think it has been a definite improvement. I love Rennie and I love making love with him. But there's something about having a secret sex life that makes our relationship all the more exciting."-Glenda, 31

"Now, making love with Barbara has become a kind of ritual that we practice after each lesson. It's more sex than I have with Charles. And better, too...I know I'm still a heterosexual woman. I like having a husband. I like being married. But the sex I have with my female lover is the best I can imagine."-Suzanne, 40

"I hated to see Brett leave and wondered whether it would ever happen again. Well, it has. Almost every time he comes to service the pool. Frederick doesn't suspect a thing. I'm not even sure whether he realizes that his wife is happier and has become a better lover to him. But I know I am. And I think I owe it all to my affair with Brett."-Monica, 46

5.0 out of 5 stars Insights into sex lives, February 7, 2007
It was a fantastic quick read that my partner and I were able to share and talk about. It is great to read actual interviews about other people to realise how different we all are and what things turn us on.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book is a fraud, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Secret Sex: Real People Talk About Outside Relationships They Hide from Their Partners (Hardcover)
This book pretends to offer real life stories that different people have sent in about their extra-marital affairs. It does not take an educated reader very long to realize that this book is a complete fraud. The stories that populate the pages of this book appear to have all been penned by a single author--most likely a man. Key mindsets and language are virtually identical from chapter to chapter.
