5.0 out of 5 stars They're in Our Mind
Yet again, Gardiner has brought a work of art to the world of documentaries and involves us in a sinister world of manipulation and propoganda. He sets about telling us why we join secret societies and then runs through their existence - revealing a unique central core that links them all together. Shocking, beautiful, incredibly thought provoking - Gardiner does it again...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
When I first bought this DVD, I did not know what to expect. I had read some favorable reviews of Philip Gardiner that prompted me to explore his work. This DVD was a disappointment! There was a lot of non-sense music which had little if anything to do with the subjet matter. Many assertions were made, but no justification or sources were cited. The content had little...

Shocking, beautiful, incredibly thought provoking - Gardiner does it again in my humble opinion. Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Illuminati Exposed At Last!, August 29, 2007

This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
Well maybe not the Illuminati that is bantered about so much, but certainly the original core groups that led to such tales of fantasy and conspiracy low these many years. Very well researched, a must for any conspiracy buff.

This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
I have heard about Secret Societies for years but never really understood them until I watched this DVD. Gardiner takes you on a journey to uncover the dark secrets of the world's most powerful men and the secret societies they have belonged to throughout history. Find out what really goes on behind the scenes and why the members of these exclusive groups don't want the rest of us finding out about them.

The content had little point with the title. In my opinion, if you are going to trash a worldwide accepted institution you need to be armed with the facts, and be able to communicate the sources. He failed miserably in this respect. There were pictures displayed that had nothing to do with the dialogue or were out of context. This DVD was not very scholarly or professionally produced. Wait until it goes on sale below $10...

5.0 out of 5 stars A winner!, August 14, 2008
This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
There is an overwhelming mass of knowledge contained in this sixty-minute documentary by acclaimed director Phillip Gardiner. This guy knows his stuff. If your awareness of the Freemasons and Illuminati is limited to THE DA VINCI CODE and subpar History Channel documentaries then you are in for a treat. I consider myself reasonably well educated in the subject matter and even I was blown away by this. Rocking soundtrack, too. I have no idea if you can get the score on CD but I'm searching all over the net for a copy. Terrific stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistent Gardiner, March 27, 2008
This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
Gardiner once again give a consistent, interesting, low key look into secret societies. He has no fear and seems to love to delve into the secret lives and histories of powerful groups. I found this DVD to be powerful, interesting and intelligent. You don't have to agree with everything Gardiner says to find this DVD entertaining.

3.0 out of 5 stars Secrets no more, January 9, 2008
This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
An illuminating look into the complexities, differences, and amazingly enough--similarities, between many of the so-called `Secret Societies', both in the past and today.

Philip Gardiner explores many truths, untruths and rumors about these societies, as well as where they came from. If you've ever wondered why these societies act as they do, and how they originally came to being, you've got to see this eye-opening movie.

This review is from: Secret Societies by Philip Gardiner (DVD)
What is a "secret society?" Author and filmmaker Philip Gardiner uses a plethora of visual images and music to explore and explain the beginnings of secret societies. The rites and rituals performed and revered by such groups as Knights Templar, Nazis, Freemasons, and even one of the first secret societies, Christianity are looked at from a historical and contemporary perspective. Very interesting stuff!

1.0 out of 5 stars pretty lame, April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very promising, but ultimately pretty lame. Alternating between seeming to criticize secret societies from an unspoken but implicit Catholic perspective, and then claiming that the Catholics are behind the Illuminati, Gardiner contradicts himself many times and furthermore, reveals his status as a total outsider by making straw man arguments against the Freemasons, who he seems to have very little actual knowledge of. Nice Ken Burns effects in iMovie though. A word of advice: If you want to understand secret societies, consider joining one instead of just making stuff up.
