4.0 out of 5 stars Something Missing!
This is a really good book but there was something missing! I can't quite put my finger on it! Wait, I know what it is! I didn't develop any connection with the characters! There are some books that you absolutely love or hate the characters(Friends and Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey or Soulmates Dissipate by Mary Morrison). But I felt nothing for these characters and when...

I did not like this book at all and it isn't because I don't have an open mind. I totally agree with the other reviewer, I did not bond with the characters at all. I need some kind of a connection and it just was not there. I got sick of all the designer name dropping and not to mention the very predictable ending that left me feeling cheated. 3.0 out of 5 stars What's Behind Door Number One?, March 30, 2006
By
Yasmin Coleman (PENNSYLVANIA, USA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
Debut novelist, Miasha, has created a tangled web of sex, lies, betrayal, friendship and lust in Secret Society. Celess and Tina, friends since high school, have shared everything and grown closer than blood relatives over the last few years. Now, young adults, without skills or education, but blessed with exotic looks and well maintained bodies, they prey upon men to take care of them and hope that their secret will never be discovered. For the past four years, they have spent time as members of the Secret Society--those who live life recklessly on the edge with wicked abandonment. Celess and Tina have been faithful to scheming and playing men--most times juggling several consecutively, one-night stands, the money, the flash, the fun and the rush. When a close encounter almost leads to the unveiling of their secret they realize they are playing a dangerous game and their love of money, sex, illicit encounters and wild adventures could lead to tragedy if their secret is ever discovered.

Secret Society is a sizzling and steamy novel. The provacative cover will attract attention and cause readers to pick it up; the steamy storyline will hold reader's attention and entertain them in the process. The storyline starts off with a bang, as by page 20, readers will already know what the big secret is. And a shocking surprise it is! From there it is on with drama, more drama and mo' drama! Not only is it a quick and easy read, but due to its small page count (approximately 175 pages) and large print size, I definitely recommend this read to those who like to read a book in one sitting.

Secret Society is a plot-driven storyline, long on drama but short on character development. Featuring ghetto-fab and dramalicious, young adult characters, while capitalizing on the popularity of the growing erotic-urban genre, Secret Society is a book that is well suited to the under 30 crowd and fans of the erotic-urban genre. With Secret Society, Miasha appears to have a promising career and be well on her way to carving out a successful niche with this target audience.

There are some books that you absolutely love or hate the characters(Friends and Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey or Soulmates Dissipate by Mary Morrison). This is too good to even go in detail. Celess and Tina are some true golddiggin chicks. They ONLY mess w the best who keeps them PAID and lookin lovely. They do so many guys wrong, and get so very much. But they both hold a secret that will destroy lives if it were brought to light.

Read this book, as you follow Tina and Celess through 12 months of drama, laughs and tragedy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some people never know when to change., July 9, 2006
I totally agree with the review that Yasmin Coleman wrote from APOOO Book-Club. (He said it all!) However since I don't want to duplicate what she just said, I am writing this review a little bit differently than the norm. First I'd like to say that I almost took this one back to the store because after purchasing it, the Author was doing an interview on the radio which was broadcasted in Atlanta, and she gave away the (plot or so call secrecy) during her interview, which spoiled it for me. So from there I put it at the end of my long list of reads and decided to read it later.

Secret Society was funny, interesting, and yes fast pace a very easy-to-finish book. It was short and to the point. I found myself sympathizing with Celess and Tina. But there deadly game scared me a great deal too, because this life-style and behavior really do exist. It makes you wonder how many Celess and Tina's have you've passed in the malls, or sat beside in salons, or worse seduced a man that you may know or have been with.

I also found myself wondering how detail that life was written, and what they went through. Nevertheless signs were given, and Celess didn't heed her warnings. No-body deserves what either of them got in the end.

I felt that the ending of Secret Society could have been a lot clearer, that is unless the Author is planning a sequel. The novel ended abruptly leaving a lot of questions unanswered.

Mrs. Miasha...you did your research on the backgrounds of your characters very well. It was tactfully written for that life-style and the characters were believable and likable, it makes a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great First Novel, August 31, 2006
Miasha did a great job of exposing the "Secret." Well written, captivating and a real page turner. The "Secret" even surprised me. Keep up the good work Miasha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Miasha Coleman's book is off the hook!!!, April 19, 2006
Secret Society is a book that makes you drop your jaw at the very beginning, not taking too much time to get to the point and giving you and idea of how fast the fast-paced ghetto fabulous life can be. It can be read in one hour.

Finally giving a new twist to the overcrowding genre of erotica/urban fiction, Miasha gives you a story that must be told in a straight-to-the-point and let "it" all hang out kind of way.

We look forward to more from this awesome Philly sista.

This book was very intense from begining to the end. It starts off with mystery and lies. This is definitely the book to read if you like to knock books out daily. It took me a day in a half but it keep me guessing. I can't wait until the next book comes out... I read the excerpt and it is real to life, which makes it even more interesting.... The secret society is something serious and I am sure there are many people out there in this society to this day... keep them coming Miasha!!
