STORY BRIEF:
Sarah meets Phillip in a grocery store. Phillip is a dominant in his relationships. After a few dates he asks Sarah if she would do what he asked her to. She has never had that type of relationship and is willing to try. He binds parts of her body. He cuffs her, ties her up, puts her in cages, and much more. Their activities take place privately and publicly. He is a good dominant. He never hurts her in a permanent way, but he causes temporary pain and pushes her mentally. REVIEWER'S OPINION: For someone wanting to experiment with domination and submission, this book provides tons of ideas. For those not interested, it makes for great fantasy. Many may find themselves hot and breathless. I was amazed that the author was able to write over 200 pages of sex and submission scenes without seeming repetitive. She has a fertile imagination to come up with so many ideas. Normally I count the number of sex scenes in a book and the length of them. I started doing that for this book, but I gave up. There is so much of it, and I was having trouble defining what a sex scene was. Many of the submission scenes have effects similar to sex scenes. For a count, I estimate 90% of the book consists of submission and sex scenes. DATA: Story length: 233 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic with rear door activity. Setting: current day unspecified location. Copyright: 2004. Genre: erotic contemporary romance. OTHER BOOKS: For a list of my reviews of other Diana Hunter books, see my 5 star review of "Table for Four" posted 12/13/08.

Simple plot, smoldering scenes...,
This review is from: Secret Submission (Paperback)
What I like most about this novel is its simple, yet graphic approach to a BDSM relationship. It isn't pretentious or creative and it's based more on an earnest development of a woman's deep desire to be dominated more than anything. Secret Submission tells the story of a young divorcee and her introduction to BDSM brought on by her new boyfriend Phillip. After going out on a date, Phillip asks Sarah if she's interested in being submissive. She is curious about his proposal and decides to give things a whirl. Her introduction to bondage and submission is a bit unsettling at first, but she is nevertheless turned on and eager to learn more about the lifestyle. Throughout the course of the novel, Phillip introduces to some quite unconventional sexual scenarios, several of which are humiliating for Sarah, but the more extreme the games, the more she finds herself enjoying them. There are many scorching scenes throughout the novel.
This is one of those Ellora's Cave novels that is more erotica than romantica. As said earlier, this novel is about a woman shattering her inhibitions as she is introduced to a lifestyle that she had theretofore experienced. There is not much of a plot to work out here -- just two characters indulging in what they desire the most. The scenes are very hot and I was impressed with how realistic everything seems. The author (Diana Hunter) seems to know her BDSM. The novel is also surprisingly romantic. This novel reminds me of another EC scorcher titled Power Exchange, except that this one is better written and executed. Other novels with similar themes are The Ninety Days of Genevieve (a personal favorite of mine) and The Darkest Hour. If you enjoy reading erotic novels centered on BDSM, then I suggest you give this one and the others mentioned a whirl, especially if you're new to bondage.

Hard to put down...,
By Kristina "Who Me?" (Twin Cities, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secret Submission (Paperback)
When starting this book, I expected it to be like so many other BDSM-themed books I've read, yet I can honestly say I was surprised by the dark, and often intense, undertones of this novel. It wasn't a light, easy read. There were some shocking scenes, and there were times I was outraged on behalf of the heroine, Sarah; they forced me to think about how I would feel, and how I would react, if placed in the same positions.
That was the difference between this book and the others I have read, it actually made me want to analyze the situations depicted throughout; it made me want to dig deeper than the surface. That said, I hope Ms. Hunter will continue to write, she has acquired a new fan in me.

Wow!,
This review is from: Secret Submission (Paperback)
Wow...just, wow! The back cover lists a review that suggests that this book isn't for the faint of heart or feminists. Heed the warning!!! I found the book to be very good. It was very informative regarding the life of those who practice BDSM. It was extremely erotic in nature. I do agree that the characters seemed too formal with each other...the book gives more insight into the lives of those who practice BDSM and the theory behind why both partners do it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if there was more romantic emotion rather than the emotions surrounding how the famale character felt while being broken in (and down) regarding the life of a sub in a BDSM relationship. Still, if you're looking for a hot read re BDSM and/or erotica...this is the book for you! Let's just say this book was a scorcher when it comes to the sex. Enjoy!

with all due respect to the other reviewers and the author this book was totally lame.....the bondage was tame to say the least and the lines were totally cheesy......every other word out of the Dom's (if u can call him that) mouth was "slave" and instead of descriptions of the scene there was a repeat of one action work like "slap" over and over come on! Of u like real BDSM novels like "Owned and Owner, and Carries Story" u will NOT like this book I barely got through it had to skim over all the cheesiness

I usually do not read contemporary novels - prefer historical but this one was awesome. Really a facinating story of submission with honest to goodness love. If this is the way Diana Hunter usually writes I will be lining up to buy her books for sure. Philip truly sounds like the man I would have loved to have met - a dom but oh so sensitive and a beautiful lover. This girl, Sarah in the story is a lucky lucky girl! Wow - like I said could not put this book down! Highly recommend!

Lacking in Passion,
By
This review is from: Secret Submission (Paperback)
This was a nicely written book, with a believable approach to BDSM. The scenes weren't over the top, and the relationship progressed at a reasonable pace.
My complaint is that it lacked in passion to me. While there were many erotic scenes, I didn't sense any real passion and heat between Philip and Sarah. Their relationship seemed almost too "proper"...even down to the somewhat formal language they used. I would have preferred to see more animalistic hunger between them. I also didn't have any attraction for Philip. He was portrayed as a fine, decent man, but I just didn't feel any personal desire for him. And that is an important aspect of reading erotica to me...feeling attraction for the male lead. And I didn't feel that for Philip at all. I would recommend this book though. It provides a good and honest look at BDSM, and it explores some of the mental and emotional barriers Sarah faced in her relationship with Philip. Overall, an interesting and worthy read, even if it did lack in heat.

This novel put me to sleep three nights in a row. These characters wer so blah I could not enjoy the book at all. There was no attraction between them so it left me cold. Try Wicked Ties by Shayla Black for a hot bdsm novel with a passionate couple.

Tame and generic, don't bother,

This book has nothing to recommend it. The characters are less fully realized than the stuff of Harlequin romances. There's a crying lack of detail in plot and setting. As just one example, Phillip cooks a meal of "Chinese food." Yawn. This is typical. By the end of the story, we have the protagonist accepting a proposal and she still doesn't know what he does for a living. We don't know what she does, either. These are formless characters living in a void.
Far worst of all, as bdsm novels go, this is as about as tame and lame as you can find. A little light bondage, a couple of smacks to the butt, that's it. Ho-hum. She's broken, but in no time at all. No wonder. The biggest pushing of her limits was having her eat an egg he hadn't touched. Secret Submission is enough to scare someone vanilla.

Well, I guess this type of thing is just not for me. I mean whether the man was gentle with her or not is not the point, he was still degrading her, especially at the end at the party with his friends. And the female was WAY too accepting of what he wanted from her! I mean eating after him and having to kneel while he ate, and then tying her up all night long while she had her menstrual time! COme on!!! There was no romance, not even the slightest bit, in this story. Perhaps my expectations in this were off as this was my first BDSM type book.
