5.0 out of 5 stars This book is extraordinary, January 16, 2008
By Stephen Chandler (Bloomfield Hills Michigan) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I saw an early version of this book's manuscript and wrote a blurb for the jacket of the book because I found the book to be absolutely EXTRAORDINARY......Jim Manton tells some hair-raising stories about Viet Nam, some heartbraeking stories about things I won't say or I'll spoil it for you and in the middle walks you through a dramatic series of professional transitions made by people in a company who are originally filled with fear and mistrust and dysfunction and end up working together like the team we all want to be on. Jim Manton gives you his own coaching process in action throughout this story, and brings home the realization that when we are NOT in transition, we are stuck. Dead in the water.

This book is a startling blend of touchingly personal revelations and instructive action plans any reader can follow to get the courage to transition to greater levels of fulfillment. To answer the call we know is there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting and Powerful, February 13, 2008
In Chapter Six of The Secret of Transitions, author Jim Manton reveals a powerful and intimate moment from his own life. He was a soldier in Viet Nam, and his squad was taking heavy fire from the "enemy." In the midst of the noise of guns and injured soldiers screaming, he found himself suddenly looking into the eyes of a North Vietnamese soldier. In spite of the intense programming to "kill the enemy," he had an epiphany, he saw the man as a friend and was unable to raise his rifle and shoot him. It was a transition that called forth a different way of looking at himself and the reality of his life. Jim Manton made a powerful spiritual transition in that one moment. Now, years later, he has given us this concisely-written book to help us create our own transitions. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transitioning With Purpose, January 1, 2008
By Richard R. Blake (Bridgman, Michigan) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Jim Manton writes "The Secrets of Transition" in a first person narrative that incorporates personal experiences and insights, with a successful case study and examples from experiences with his clients that validate and illustrate the important elements talked about within the book.

I found Jim's guidance challenging and timely. I am, personally, in a period of transition. I now understand more fully the element of courage and the importance of choosing courage as an action step in getting unstuck, to look at my strengths, to use them fully, finding their purpose, and making a contribution to others.

I discovered that transitioning is a process of looking inward and finding the truth about one's self. Transitioning moves beyond recycling the past and "only finds traction in the present moment."

Whether I am searching for validation, suffering from a lack of vision, or failing to look at reality I learned that I can generate any action by understanding and changing my thought patterns.

I appreciated the way Jim approached the subject of personal relationships and the power of collaboration. He offers the reader the way to experience and transition from painful emotional battlefields, of betrayal, struggles with people to the "world of spirit and joy," He challenge the reader to create a relationship of trust and the power of forgiveness.

Jim Manton is an outstanding and charismatic communicator. His writing is exceptional, and challenging. Jim goes beyond motivational writing to a level of genuine life coaching. "The Secret of Transition" is an extraordinary reading experience.
