5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting and Powerful, February 13, 2008
This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
In Chapter Six of The Secret of Transitions, author Jim Manton reveals a powerful and intimate moment from his own life. He was a soldier in Viet Nam, and his squad was taking heavy fire from the "enemy." In the midst of the noise of guns and injured soldiers screaming, he found himself suddenly looking into the eyes of a North Vietnamese soldier. In spite of the intense programming to "kill the enemy," he had an epiphany, he saw the man as a friend and was unable to raise his rifle and shoot him. It was a transition that called forth a different way of looking at himself and the reality of his life. Jim Manton made a powerful spiritual transition in that one moment. Now, years later, he has given us this concisely-written book to help us create our own transitions. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is extraordinary, January 16, 2008

I saw an early version of this book's manuscript and wrote a blurb for the jacket of the book because I found the book to be absolutely EXTRAORDINARY......Jim Manton tells some hair-raising stories about Viet Nam, some heartbraeking stories about things I won't say or I'll spoil it for you and in the middle walks you through a dramatic series of professional transitions made by people in a company who are originally filled with fear and mistrust and dysfunction and end up working together like the team we all want to be on. Jim Manton gives you his own coaching process in action throughout this story, and brings home the realization that when we are NOT in transition, we are stuck. Dead in the water.

This book is a startling blend of touchingly personal revelations and instructive action plans any reader can follow to get the courage to transition to greater levels of fulfillment. To answer the call we know is there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transitioning With Purpose, January 1, 2008
This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
Jim Manton writes "The Secrets of Transition" in a first person narrative that incorporates personal experiences and insights, with a successful case study and examples from experiences with his clients that validate and illustrate the important elements talked about within the book.

I found Jim's guidance challenging and timely. I am, personally, in a period of transition. I now understand more fully the element of courage and the importance of choosing courage as an action step in getting unstuck, to look at my strengths, to use them fully, finding their purpose, and making a contribution to others.

I discovered that transitioning is a process of looking inward and finding the truth about one's self. Transitioning moves beyond recycling the past and "only finds traction in the present moment."

Whether I am searching for validation, suffering from a lack of vision, or failing to look at reality I learned that I can generate any action by understanding and changing my thought patterns.

I appreciated the way Jim approached the subject of personal relationships and the power of collaboration. He offers the reader the way to experience and transition from painful emotional battlefields, of betrayal, struggles with people to the "world of spirit and joy," He challenge the reader to create a relationship of trust and the power of forgiveness.

Jim Manton is an outstanding and charismatic communicator. His writing is exceptional, and challenging. Jim goes beyond motivational writing to a level of genuine life coaching. "The Secret of Transition" is an extraordinary reading experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fearless Transition...Are You Ready?, January 29, 2008
By
This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
The back cover of "The Secret of Transitions" reads "A Life-Changing Book!" However - I found it to be "A Reality-Changing Book." I first read Jim's book while going through 3 major transitions...Moving 1600 miles away, reinventing my business (and myself) and choosing to follow my passion of music and singing professionally. Reading this book transformed my fears into excitement and opened up a whole new way of thinking that made my transitions flow effortlessly!

If you have already experienced some degree of success in your career, business and relationships, but your heart is telling you there's more - The Secret of Transitions will guide you on many levels and take you beyond your imagination...beyond your fears! It's a book/experience that makes sense to your mind, speaks to your heart and dances with your soul and life's purpose. Are you ready?

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and Impactful Read, March 25, 2010

I had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with Jim Manton in 2009. He is empathic and insightful, and in my opinion, had me sized up quite quickly. He is definitely more of a listener than a talker, but when he speaks there is clear intent. This book 'reads' exactly as a personal experience with Jim 'feels'. It quickly grabs your attention and delivers an impactful message. Throughout the book, you get a sense of Jim's selfless and altruistic approach to coaching. I can't remember the last time I read a business book with this enthusiasm and have recommended it to several colleagues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice, January 11, 2009

This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
So many great career/business/self help/motivational books tell wonderful stories about how to "succeed". But rarely are they as practical as The Secret of Transitions by Jim Manton.

At the end of every chapter Jim challenges you to think about the lesson that he has just shared with simple yet incredibly profound questions. That is truly the beauty of this book - the simplicity of putting his sage advice to work.

The conduit to such an engaging book is Jim's storytelling. He opens himself up as if he were an old friend sharing his trials, tribulations, successes, and failures right across the table from you. All the while, weaving one experience into another as it builds to an overall roadmap to find your own success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want More Self Awareness and Peak Performance? Here's A Great Resource., January 29, 2008

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to say that I had the privilege of having Jim Manton as my executive coach a few years ago. I was a fan of Jim's going in, but The Secret of Transitions exceeded my expectations in a variety of ways. I honestly had a hard time putting it down.

In my 1:1 coaching sessions, Jim was excellent in two areas. First, he had an uncanny knack for bringing out peak performance by holding up a mirror and significantly increasing my self-awareness. Second, he had incredible break-through insights (both about personal and business issues) in those sessions -- insights that have helped me succeed both at home and at work.

Obviously, because he's not sitting across the table from the reader, Jim can't provide the personal break-through insights through his book. But, the simple exercises at the end of each chapter brought me right back to my conversations with Jim about self-awareness. Many of the exercises were precisely what he and I used and talked about to build my success.

I found The Secret of Transitions to be incredibly insightful about human nature and business, personal and moving at times, honest, and a great resource that I will come back to time and again in the future during my own transitions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel Good About Life, January 16, 2008
This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
I have personally known Mr. Manton for over 40 years and can certainly vouch that he has indeed led an extremely interesting life. From college life to Vietnam to corporate life, he has experienced life's highs and lows; thus, making him the person he is today. Jim is very personable and knowledgeable, and as such, has risen to a success level to be admired. The essence of who Jim is, and what he believes in, are eloquently captured in his book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who may want to do a little self examination, who may be facing major changes in life, or who simply wants to feel better about life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motivation, Hope, Courage and a Road Map to Success, May 6, 2008
This review is from: The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success (Paperback)
The Secret of Transitions: How to Move Effortlessly to Higher Levels of Success

Jim Manton's, The Secret of Transitions is an exceptional work of motivational inspiration, heart-felt pain and joy, success, failure, determination, communication and the reality of hope and how one's thinking can take them down any road.

A car in the hands of a drunk can lead to destruction, pain and loss. The same car in the hands of a skilled and dedicated professional can lead to victory, success and fulfillment.

Sit shot-gun with this curious, powerful and energetic author as he transitions from a young man in the turbulent `60s Vietnam era, back home in the US during the Reagan years of tech-corp explosions and on to higher-learning and a quest for self-purpose and mastery that makes him the incredible life coach he is today.

As a young professional Jim Manton's The Secret of Transitions was a must read for me. I can relate to the author. Whatever "transitions" you may face in life Jim Manton's story will offer you powerful, real-life experiences, pains and triumphs you can draw from to help you transition from one level of success or fulfillment to the next.
