4.0 out of 5 stars Not Griffin's best ever but still very good
This one by Griffin is well-worth checking out. I'm a big fan of current 90's style war novels like 'The Triumph and the Glory' and 'Going After Cacciato', I appreciate their candour and gritty reality. 'The Secret Warriors' is every bit as effective in this regard. The storytelling is first-rate, the characters memorable, and the plot keeps the reader turning the page...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best book.
This is not the best book W.E.B. Griffin has written but if you want to continue reading the exploits of James Whittaker and Dick Canidy from Honor Bound, Blood and Honor and The Last Heroes it would be a worthwhile read.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a joke, right?, July 2, 1999

The characters are shallow and not believeable. Dialog is trite, and the plot is thin and slow. Griffin spends way too much time on irrelevant detail.

I felt like I was reading a soap opera adaptation. First and last WEB Griffin book I'll read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get it, read it and wait for the next in the series., August 29, 1998

Classic Griffin. If you've read the other two series, you can expect what the book is like. Regardless, I didn't put it down once I started reading it.

This book gets into the development of the OSS and does not pay as much attention to the military as did many of his other books. All the characters return from the first book and there are some interesting developments. Griffin also gets deeper into the characters and how they relate to one another. The book is mostly cloak-and-dagger OSS stuff with a few other plot developments thrown in. Not much shooting or violence, but there is a lot of drinking, money and sex -- as is common in many of his books.

I feel that this book as well as all the others in Mr. Griffins repertoire are just amazing, they keep you interested and engrossed. This man is one author that keeps me reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall---a good read, June 20, 1999
By A Customer
I've always enjoyed his books. Full of details and exitement. One flaw though...as an enlisted man in the military I find his books to be insulting and disregarding to all the enlisted men and women in the Armed Forces. He makes it seem as if it weren't for all those tall, good-looking, well bred officers we wouldn't be successful if all we had were rugged, foul-mouth enlisted people.

If you like Griffin you'll like this series, however save money and find a used book store and look for Alex Baldwin. The name Griffin originally published this series under!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read, July 21, 1998

I always look forward to a new book from WEB Griffin even as in this case, it isn't new. I have everything Mr. Griffin has written that I've been able to get my hands on since a friend turned me on to these fine stories several years ago. As with most of the books I enjoy, the main problem with them is that I have to wait so long for the next in whatever series the author has turned to this time. Please keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Griffin keeps you on your seat with each serial, July 21, 1998

Previously reading Griffin has help set the mind set of the reading his books. They intrique and are suspensful. I enoyed the fact of decrease romance in this book but the realism of how war effects both men and women. Keep up the supspense and I'll be a loyal follower.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than Volume 1, July 16, 1998
This book is a much better read than Volume 1 ot the series. Griffin is getting better at exploring the evil that men do for good causes. The depiction of WW II England and the politics of the Free French forces were fascinating. I'll look forward to his next book.
