Nick Fury, revisited, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Secret Warriors Volume 1: Nick Fury, Agent Of Nothing (Hardcover)
Colonel Fury disappeared shortly after the Secret War and was noticeably absent or, more to the point, covert during the Secret Invasion. After the fall of SHIELD and the rise of HAMMER, Nick has not been idle. He has been gathering a team of "caterpillars", people with powers - kids actually, who are unknown to the govenment or the Superhuman Registration Act. What he plans to do with that team is set things right.
If all of this means nothing to you, don't fret. It doesn't matter. What matters to fans of the now-defunct SHIELD's commander is that he's back. Bendis and Hickman have a tight story than unrolls organically and a good understanding of who Nick Fury is - a tough guy in a tough spot. Top off an A-one story and good characterization with Stefano Casseli's art and you have a hit. His storytelling is clean and uncluttered and well suited to the work.
As a long time fan of Nick and the Howlers, I have often been disappointed in the hit-or-miss attempts to make a Nick Fury comic. Here, sans SHIELD, characterization is driving a 5 star story. And finally, the little boy in me is infinitely pleased to see the Howlers once again!
If you're a fan of Nicholas' or the Howlers, you will be pleased.

A comic that has it all, November 4, 2009
This review is from: Secret Warriors Volume 1: Nick Fury, Agent Of Nothing (Hardcover)
In truth I do not have a background on reading SHEILD before hand. The back story which is expansive has been condensed so that you do not feel lost starting with this comic. The art is solid, story is epic and there is a good dose of comedy in here that Bendis fans have come to expect. Really this purchase is a no brainer if you are looking for a comic that has it all. Seriously it has a little piece of every marvel subplot all mixed into one MASTERPEICE. I only gave the comic 4 stars because the HYDRA Layout near the beginning was just a waste of space and feels like it was placed in as filler.

This is a must buy for Marvel fans and one of the best new books they have put out in a long while. Hydra has never been better and the Fury is his usual kick azz self!!!
