5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer nostalgia for fans of the spy novel., April 23, 2011
This review is from: Secret Ministry (Kindle Edition)
Admission from the outset: the reviewer is an incorrigible aficionado of crime and spy novels, especially those written between the 1930s-60s. Hammett, Deighton, Fleming... these are names that will strike a sympathetic chord with enthusiasts of the genre. But for me, the Holy Trinity is Cheyney, Chandler and Cory. I came across this the serendipitous way while originally googling for something unrelated. "Secret Ministry" is Desmond Cory's first novel (1951) which introduced Johnny Fedora and gave birth to a highly successful series of novels over the next twenty years. Well-crafted, fast-moving, very entertaining and highly acclaimed by all the press critics at the time, this really is a classic, must-have thriller. Thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. I hope that other Fedora novels (and also Lindy Grey) will soon be made available as e-books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic detective thriller that hits all the right spots, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Secret Ministry (Kindle Edition)
I enjoyed this novel.Delightfully fantastic adventure that is full of humour and erudition. A novel full of wit and which captures so well the period it is set in of the 1950s-60s. Cory has something in common with the other great detective authors - a writing talent that just makes you want to read on, discovering more about the plot being unfolded. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who will enjoy his novels.
