The Secretary of Transportation's Message to Truckers is a film of the only speech any Secretary of Transportation has ever made to truckers at a truckstop, Federico Peña's address to truckers in Buda Texas in 1994.
In this controversial speech, Federico Peña explained that the solution to truck safety was not safer vehicles, but a government subsidised health care plan. Truck fatalities rose significantly after Federico Peña took over the Transportation department after falling for four years straight during the Bush Administration. Under Federico Peña, trucking became the most dangerous occupation in the United States. Because of his policies, one in seven Americans killed on the Job is now a trucker. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 12,000 men, women, and children were killed in additional preventable truck wrecks due to Federico Peña's policies.
Federico Peña is introduced by Todd Spencer of the Owner Operator Independent Driver Association. The video also includes an interview with Jeff Dilts, a motor carrier safety instructor with the Michigan State Police.
