4.0 out of 5 stars Explained Alot to Me
I found this book to be very interesting. Obviously, not everyone will fit the typical man (or woman for that matter) as described by DeAngelis, however the information she provided was useful in understanding the man that I work with and the man that I married. 2.0 out of 5 stars Too much stereotyping
While the book does make a number of good points, there is too much stereotyping. De Angelis's starting point for each of her arguments is the premise that "Men are solution-oriented while women are process-oriented". I personally have not met any woman who would fit De Angelis's theory of the sexes. The book is full of the same stereotypes and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Explained Alot to Me, December 23, 1999
By A Customer
I found this book to be very interesting. Obviously, not everyone will fit the typical man (or woman for that matter) as described by DeAngelis, however the information she provided was useful in understanding the man that I work with and the man that I married. I know, because I reviewed the major points made by DeAngelis with both of these men who play big roles in my life, and while they each disagreed on some ideas, they whole-heartedly agreed on others (and both of these men had different views from eachother). In fact, my husband believes this is a very fine book, because *he* was not always able to put these ideas into words when trying to explain his behavior to me. I agree that a *man* would have a better idea of how a man thinks and feels, so when a man tells me that for the most part, DeAngelis is right on the money, then she must know something. Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Genuine Honest Authentic Relationships a Reality, April 11, 2004
By
Barbara Rose (BornToInspire.com) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Secrets About Men Every Woman Should Know (Mass Market Paperback)
Barbara DeAngelis did a wonderful job to help women better understand men so that they can have genuine, authentic relationships once the differences are understood. It takes away a lot of the guesswork, and bring valuable advice, tests, questions, and answers that will help women be authentic, real, and genuine while learning how to relate to the man they are with, once they understand their basic inherent differences.

There are a lot of interviews with men in this book that provide the basis for what turns them off, and how they genuinely want to share in an authentic relationship with a woman who is real, as opposed to setting a trap, or manipulating them. Highly recommended for its authenticity and valuable insight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Information, November 5, 2001
This review is from: Secrets About Men Every Woman Should Know (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book after reading and enjoying "Secrets about Women". A lot of the information in this book is re-hashed in the newer one, but it still contains a lot of useful insight into the differences between men and women. Barbara offers valuable relationship information that I believe truely will help anyone interested in knowing more about the opposite sex. This book is written for woman, but I still found a lot of good information in it for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Singer w/ male musicians, October 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets About Men Every Woman Should Know (Mass Market Paperback)
I was stuck in a house with 7 male musicians. As a singer/songwriter I contributed and collaborated with everyone. One problem, no one listened to anything I said, or would dismiss me as if I was just a silly "girl." Everything I tried did not work. At a bookstore I picked up this book, and not expecting much because the situation was so frustrating - I just did a few things, exactly as described in the book. Amazing! Every one of those men started takiing me seriously as not just a musician but person. I was amazed and have given this book to my single friends.

I found this book to be very informative. It teaches you how to understand men and how to have a good relationship. It also tells you what they like and dislike, how to treat them. I would say it's like a mini-encyclopaedia of men!

"When a man does not feel good about himself, he will become less loving to you." ~ Barbara De Angelis

Barbara De Angelis is obviously an expert on male-female relationships and as I read all her books I realize how much she has gone through to write such helpful guides. She bases her ideas on surveys and personal experience.

The start of this book is mostly about changing yourself so you become more confident, stop mothering your man and stop nagging constantly. By irritating your man less you get a better relationship instantly. Then you can work on deeper levels of communication because your guy will actually be more interested in talking to you. Barbara De Angelis gives very good advice in this area too. She especially advises you to tell a man what you like to talk about and then stick to a plan. Basically leave the aimless conversations for when you are with your female friends or with a man who has a large corpus callosum. I personally find it more easy to talk to a man who is artistic.

"Like most women I've done all the wrong things to try to get a man to love me, and I`ve had to learn the hard way." ~ Barbara De Angelis

This book has some good tips on how not to rescue men and how to allow them to grow and evolve because they want to, not because you force them to. Barbara talks about how you should get your own life and seek support amongst female friends. As she says: "Men will never be women."

Some of the surprising things in this book include the topic about reasons men want to have sex. You should also avoid asking a man what is wrong and asking a man how you look - especially if you want details.

Barbara DeAngelis did men a favor when she wrote this book almost twenty years ago. This is an excellent pep talk for women who are fed up in their relationships. It gives women the power to change their relationships for the better all while allowing men to be men. This is not a book about changing men but rather a book that seeks to explain why men react the way they do. By making slight adjustments women can gain the love they need and deserve.

Reading this book made me appreciate my husband more. I especially liked her advice on being straightforward with men. She suggests that when you are feeling upset you tell your man exactly what you want from him at that time. This saves hours of wasted time and gets you a faster result, especially if you want to avoid fights. Barbara DeAngelis encourages women not to think of men as mind readers.

For the most part this book seems to be quite accurate so the only problem I had was that some of the solutions didn't take temperaments into consideration. A more outgoing partner may find it easier to plan events or take charge in various ways. This book does tell some secrets about men but it also explains how women act and react in relationships. I thought the section on sexuality was enlightening and men will love the advice when it is put into action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen-up Ladies, April 28, 2009
Dr. DeAngelis teaches us two very important things in this book. First she tells women that men are not looking for another mother therefore we should treat them as if they are responsible adults and not enable undesirable behaviors. This is difficult for care-taking women like myself - especially because most men need sooo much adjusting. The second and best part of the book reveals many sex secrets that will inform women how to both give and receive sexual pleasures like a pro.

This is the second time I have purchased this book. The first time I let a friend borrow and never got it back! It really helps you to relate to the men in your life and gives you some insight as to what every woman in relationships with men will face or have already faced. Her interviews with men proved helpful. This book made for a great read!
