This book takes Judo back to its origins: as a martial art -- not a martial sport. If you are interested in seeing what Judo has to offer as a martial art, you will find much of Kano Sensei's Atemi Waza illustrated, with instructions on how to employ it. It cannot replace a knowledgeable sensei, but it will help you tremendously. As with any book, you must take what you read, and practice it realistically. It is not the definitive resource, but it will help you see what Judo was intended to be as a martial art. I recommend you contact the publisher to see if they have Prof. Pereira's demonstrative video. This video shows many of the techniques applied by advanced instructors. It is highly recommended.

Naturally, the publishers call this a book revealing the most effective techniques known to man. Really, it's an interesting collection of pretty good stuff. Not exactly the ultimate in street fighting, but some interesting combinations and locks.
