3.0 out of 5 stars Please read this before you buy this book
Ok, the book is not awful. If you read between the lines, you can find some worthwhile stuff in there. However, there are these points to take into consideration before you buy:

A) Sandra regurgitates the same exact concepts and words that all the self-help gurus are touting nonstop these days. Abundance. Intention. Bliss. Manifest. I would love to provide them...

I originally purchased this book thinking it was another one of those books on what tricks you need in order to find a boyfriend or a girlfriend, but after reading it for the first time it is an amazing book. From page 1 to the last page, I found things in it that made me nod my head, underline it and say outloud 'yeah that is it exactly'. She points out the negative things people do to themselves and to each other whether it is through the words you use, how you treat yourself and others and what you need to do to change it. She gives you the tools for you to make your life exactly the way you want it to be and shows you how to take that little voice everyone has in their heads and turn it around so that it says positive things instead of all of the negative words you hear and try to shut out. If you are looking to start over, to find that love of your life (yourself) or even that someone special that will love you for who you are, then you have to buy this book. Definitely one of those can't put down books. You will change your life for the better. Buy it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Secrets of Attraction", October 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
This book is awesome. I have already purchased two more as gifts for friends who are having a hard time attracting loving partners. The author does not talk down to her audience by speaking in platitudes or generalizations. She cuts to the heart of the matter using quantum physics and factual data to shed light on exactly what attraction is. The author leads the reader to focus on what really matters in life. LOVE! This book is not just about finding a date for Saturday night...the author takes us on a step-by-step journey and teaches us HOW to love purely and completely, thus setting off a chain-reaction of attracting good things/good people into our lives. After just a few weeks of implementing the principles that Ms. Taylor outlines, I can honestly say that my life has been changed forever. A "must read" for those who have "read them all"!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars NYC Review, November 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
If you want to buy one book that sums it all up look no further. I've read many books on this topic but have to say, the author's simplistic yet profound statements not only tie all her ideas together so seamlessly but have tied up loose ends from other books I have read on similar topics. This is not a "love game" book with rules to follow. This is a book based on quantum physics and attraction. If you are sincerely interested in attracting love in your life I suggest you read this book. However, you may be surprised...if you read this book with honesty and the sincere willingness to get to the heart of "your" matter, you will not only attract love but an endless abundance of so many other beautiful things. You will see yourself and others in a different way; you will begin to understand; a light bulb will go off, things will start to make sense and everything will gently start falling into place.
Thank you Ms. Taylor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Secrets of Attraction; the universal laws of love, sex, and romance, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is not exactly what I expected, but it turned out to be way better. Some information on why we attract what/who we attract was difficult to read in that, it was hard to face the fact that we get back exactly what we put out. The author presents this without blame or guilt...just helps the reader to break-through the blocks and negative mental patterns that perpetuate loss, isolation, rejection, and the resulting frustration. After several failed relationships, reading this book helped me to overcome some of my own negative patterns and VOILA! Like magic, negative, unkind people stopped coming into my life. Only the loving ones stay now. Pretty scientific stuff here for those who are sort of sick of the usual namby-pampy spiritual stuff that is out there. It is all pure cause and effect. Find out the cause...change the effect. Simple for those willing to practice what the author preaches. A great book for those specifically looking for romance or help with an existing love relationship. In truth, I like her second book, Quantum Success even more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent material, but not quite complete, December 28, 2007

This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
This book is loaded with some awesome stuff, but it is also couched in a little bit of hocus pocus that I thought could have been left out. The whole quantum idea is interesting, I've always been intrigued by the idea that everything is interconnected and things can influence other things at a distance even if they aren't obviously connected. Maybe because I loved Star Wars as a kid, but I guess really because I believe there is actually something to it. But the idea that we're tapping into some quantum force by applying the laws in this book is just a theory. Another, more straightforward theory might be something like this: people who act as if they're uncomfortable are unattractive because they appear to be signaling one or both of the following: 1) "I'm uncomfortable with you" (so it's a risk to love me because I might reject you) and/or 2) "I'm uncomfortable with myself" (so I'm not worth loving). I'd guess that in the absence of hard evidence either way most people will assume it's #1 (if we tend to be self-centered and insecure), even though more often it's probably actually #2.

This book does an awesome job of dealing with the psychological aspects of fixing problem #2 (not loving yourself). Basically the message of the book is that you should value yourself as someone worthy of love, and that you should shape all your thoughts and actions around that truth. It lays out very well what the bad and good thought patterns are concerning self-love. It does a pretty good (but not excellent) job of dealing with the behavioral aspects of changing your thought patterns. It has only a few practical application exercises. The idea of practicing self affirmation is excellent. But I don't think it really lays out a good set of steps for "how-to-go-about-doing-this". It suggests meditation, but it's only a brief treatment. I think a good companion guide would present some sort of structured set of activities, a kind of "3 Weeks to Self-Love", or something like that.

Here's an example of the lack of practical application. I was really excited when I read the section on the resonance of motion, sound and light. I immediately recognized that this meant that I needed to pay more attention to how I move, how I sound, and how I look. (And basically change any patterns I had that made me look like I lacked confidence.) To address the resonance of sound I paid more attention to my breathing and how it affects the sound of my voice. I became interested in pranayama (the yogic art of breathing). Had I not already known a little about pranayama I may never have discovered the connection between it and the resonance of sound. I think the book could offer a lot more practical applications of its ideas to help the reader understand how to apply them.

The other side of the coin is dealing with problem #1 - loving the other. Just because you love yourself and have confidence doesn't mean you'll automatically be good at giving people the impression that you love *them*. This is where the book could really use some supplementation. I recently also read "How to Make Someone Love You Forever! In 90 Minutes or Less" and, despite the shallow sounding title, I thought that book had a lot of good insights, and was pretty responsible with the topic (it's definitely not a seduction book). Without doing a complete review of HTMSLYF, its key insight is that to really 'magnetize' someone you need to demonstrate that not only are you comfortable with yourself, but that you're comfortable with them, that you are really in tune with them. The way you do this, according to HTMSLYF, is to use a set of behavioral techniques that are designed to make people feel comfortable with you and connected to you. I think that to be a really complete treatise on the subject of attraction this book (Secrets of Attraction) needs to have quite a bit more on the topic of developing interpersonal connections.

This is an excellent book. I'm giving only 4 stars for three reasons 1) it needs a more thorough treatment of the psychology of connecting with others, 2) It could use some more practical application examples, and 3) I think the quantum energy/power of the universe stuff is a bit over the top, and may turn off some people who see it as hokey, even though a lot of these people could really benefit from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the SECRET that started it all!!!, February 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
SECRETS OF ATTRACTION applies all the Laws--and there are more than one--to the experience of romance in a way that is both liberating and empowering! Once you read this book, you will understand every single relationship you've ever had. Cause and effect, energy and resonance--that's the real "chemistry" behind love. If you want to know how to get it, keep it, and really enjoy it, read this book. There is nothing more significant written on this subject to date! Take the attraction quiz--it's not about looks, that's for sure. In fact, this book reveals that relationships aren't about any of the things we used to assume. They're about your energy, your resonance, your intentions--they're about YOU! Get this book if you're interested in freeing yourself from the old loveless patterns. I found my love after reading it and applying the principles, but even before that, I found happiness first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound Advice, February 11, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
Sandra Taylor, a practicing psychologist, delves into the science of success with this well-written insight into the world of universal law and how it may be used to change your relationships, and improve the romance in your life. Laws such as the Law of Magnetism, Law of Attraction, and Law of Pure Desire have achieved a wide popularity recently, which seems to reflect our current rage for advice on how to succeed and achieve our goals. In my opinion, Taylor does a good job in this area, delivering a piece similar to the popular book "Shortcut to a Miracle," by Michael and Elizabeth Rann.

If you are interested in something more specifically geared towards financial success, you may want to try the classic "Richest Man in Babylon," by George Clason, or "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing..., August 29, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of Attraction: The Universal Laws of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
I read The Secrets of Attraction, by Sandra Anne Taylor and decided to attempt to put into practice what I had learned in theory using the wisdom of the law of magnetism, insights into universal laws and paradoxical intent.

I created some affirmations and re-directed some of my emotionally charged energy away from disappointment and toward my newly created goals, as well as creating a manifestation journal to document the results.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised.

My manifestation journal is becoming filled with new-found abundance and prosperity that I have been attracting into my life and I am well on my way to positive, progressive, life transformation.

A must read and highly recommended!

Another of my favourite recent discoveries in New Age books that highlights romance, spirituality and life transformation is...

Nexus: A Neo Novel
