About the Author

Jeremy Sutton is an award-winning computer artist and illustrator. An associate editor and regular contributor at EFX Art & Design magazine, he is the author of Fractal Design Painter Creative Techniques as well as Painter video training courses. He has spoken at international conferences such as Macworld and SIGGRAPH and taught at the University of California Santa Barbara, San Francisco State University, and the American Film Institute.

Daryl Wise coordinates digital art contests for Macworld Expo and Seybold Seminars. He formerly was responsible for artist relations and publicity at Fractal Design, the company that developed Painter.

This book offers little in the way of actual things to do for your own digital painting or artwork, it is just a review of different digitial artists and some of their work. It is similar to the books such as "Works of 100 colored pencil artists", which is a showcase of colored pencil artists with a short bio and examles of their works, but very little in the way of actual techniques for your own work. This is similar to that, and, while there are some explanations given on some of the techniques used along with a short bio on each artist, it is mainly just a showcase of digital artists and their work. If you like a book for a coffee table and just enjoy looking at artwork, this is the book. However, if you want a more extensive book on actual work for digital work, you need to buy the technical books on the interrelationship between art and computer expertise.
In some ways, the title of the book is wrong, since some people may get the idea that this will be an instruction book on digital work in the arts.
The book is very well done, with good layout and the copies of the digital work is clear and colorwork is appropriate.

I remember when I first saw this book at the bookstore and turning the pages, read a little about how artists have gone digital and showing the kind of art they have created digitally and also how they did it. I was really amazed by it.

But I guess if anything, I was more or less inspired by buying the book because of Peter Max's foreword on digital art.

I really enjoyed learning about the digital artists and why they went digital, that was awesome. The bonus is a certain artwork shown and then how they created and what type of hardware/software they used and I'm just very passionate about this book because no other book at this time on digital art comes close to this one.

Price may be a little steep for some but for those who dreamed or have a passion for digital art, think of it as a worthy of investment because this book is indeed a rare gem.

This book has a unique way (as far as design books go) of illustrating concepts. Instead of the usual and typically boring style of writing out information and then giving the reader a few tutorials and examples to illustrate, this book works only with examples. And the examples aren't just any examples, there is an entire collection of beautiful examples written and explained by top designers and artist of our time. I've always been one to learn best by a visual example and if you feel that way too, then this book will kick off your study of digital design in a fresh unique way that is unparalleled in today's publishing world.
