SECRETS BETWEEN THEM by C.J.Carmichael
October 24, 2006
Amazon rating 4/5
"This is the third in C.J. Carmichael's `Return to Summer Island' trilogy, focusing on six friends after the murder of superstar jazz singer Simone DeRosier. Though the last to join the group, Simone became the brightest star among them, beautiful, vivacious, and full of life. Her recording of a song about friends and loyalty made her a world famous star. Since her death, the friends have parted ways, and have not gathered together in a long time.
Jennifer was the only other woman in this group, the shy and quiet one who usually let her best friend Simone shine. When biographer Nick Lancaster comes to town to research Simone, Jennifer warns the others not to talk to him, in case he tarnishes Simone's reputation. They are loyal to Jennifer, and keep their word. However, Nick finds his way into Jennifer's life, and as he gets to know her, he realizes that Jennifer was not out to protect her friend Simone, but someone else, herself. Nick knows that Jennifer's hiding something, but she refuses to talk." -- complete review at BookLoons - M. Lofton
I enjoyed this trilogy by C.J.Carmichael. A few things stood out with this series, including a large cast of main characters (six throughout the trilogy). I also found that the continuity of this series worked quite well. I was able to jump back into the story, regardless that it had been months since I had read the previous book. In this final novel, loose ends are tied up and the mystery to Simone's famous song is revealed. The answer certainly surprised me, as I hadn't seen this coming. It explained a lot of things, including Jennifer's relationship to Simone. SECRETS BETWEEN THEM was a very enjoyable romance and a great ending to this trilogy.

interesting contemporary romance, October 14, 2006
This review is from: Secrets Between Them (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Biographer Nick Lancaster has conducted intense research on his next subject, jazz singer Simone DeRosier, who was murdered at the height of her fame. He feels he has more than enough to complete the book if he can learn one more thing that bothers him. Who is the "one true friend" that Simone seemed to always turn to?
Nick travels from New York to Summer Island near Vancouver to determine whether B&B owner Jennifer March is the elusive one. However, he finds himself attracted to the woman he is deceiving and believes she reciprocates. That is until she learns what a rat he is. Now he must convince her that his feelings for her have nothing to do with his work.
This is an interesting contemporary romance in which the lead couple learns that even love may not prove strong enough to overcome deception. Nick knows that he owes Jennifer the truth, but fears what will happen to their relationship when he does. Jennifer is stunned that he "used" her to obtain information. Readers will appreciate this fine tale as Nick must find a way to persuade his beloved that he is a saint not a sinner.
