5.0 out of 5 stars It soothes your heart, mind and soul., May 6, 2002

I was actually looking for a change in my musical taste several years ago when I came across to Brian Culbertson's "Secret". I have been known to my friends and contemporaries as a hard core metalhead for life. But then again, I have a soft spot for mellow jazz. All the songs in this album are excellent, from the playful"So Good" to the title track, "Secrets". It's a very good music to relax and unwind. I totally recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brian's Best!, October 13, 2000

This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
Every song on this CD a pleasure to listen to. "Secrets", so soft and sentual, "So Good", playful and exciting, "On My Mind", takes you back to another place in time. Brian is a master at playing keyboards and also plays Trumbone. He is incredibly talented. He has written and produced music for Bob Mamet who plays piano and Steve Cole who plays Saxophone. On this particular CD he has Gerald Albright playing Saxophone along with Jeff Golub of Avenue Blue playing Guitar on several selections. If you have CD's by Boney James, Rick Braun, Dave Koz, Steve Cole, Braxton Brothers, Peter White, and others, your smooth jazz collection is not complete without this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A form of meditating - or just pure enjoyment, December 16, 2001
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
We all have favorites and one of mine is the song Straight to the Heart. I got the album because it had that song - but I'm glad it led me to Brian's work. This is one to put on, sit back, and absorb. A form of meditating - or just pure enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ingenious music from an upcoming force in the music world, July 13, 1999

Brian Culbertson is a force to be reckoned with. Not only does he master the smooth jazz arena the hints of R&B,pop and classical are brilliant. He knows how to work every part of a song in every style. He is the next Foster. Can't wait for the new one in the fall

4.0 out of 5 stars Some really good tunes, October 10, 2002

I agree with some of the comments about smooth jazz. But this album transcends the genre. Whatever that means. I guess I'll put it plainer... this CD contains several songs that are just TOO good.

Why 4 stars? Trying to reduce rating inflation. Its a really good album, get it if you heard a song and really like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The young white promise in smooth jazz!, October 30, 2004
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
Culbertson is still in his twenties but his mature ideas overpasses by far his promising youth. Undoubtly we are before one of the top keyboardists in the world of the smooth jazz .
This album has two top tracks : On my mind and Straight to the heart , but the level is so high that you can be engaged with any one of them .
What it wonders me about Culbertson is his enormous talent to switch from style under his masterful musical skills and different moods .
I must confess that Culbertson, Greg Karukas, Michael Camilo and Joe Sample are the most innovative smooth jazz players today .

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding blend of smooth and upbeat jazz, July 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
This was my first purchase of a smooth Jazz CD. There are some great upbeat Jazz songs like tracks 9 & 3, At the Backroom and Backstreet. Some of my favorite soft tunes are On my mind and Straight to the heart. I was lucky enought to see Brain in concert. He was outstanding and had Steve Cole as his horn player. If you like this CD and I know you will, you will want to checkout Steve Cole - Stay Awhile CD. Brian plays the keyboard on the tracks of Stay Awhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars "So Good" doesn't say enough about this album!, July 6, 1999
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
I came for So Good, but I wound up staying for the rest; and I was amazed by what I heard. The opening track speaks for itself, but Backstreet is one of the great smooth jazz grooves I've heard in recent times. The album as a whole is awesome; not overbearing, but not easy listening. This album will always have a permanent spot in my collection. Hey, Brian, come back to Chicago where you belong!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air, June 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
To put it quite simply: "What a great album!" Rare is the album that is played over and over again. That Secrets gets more PT (Playing Time) in my CD player is a testament to its greatness. While all selections are great, my favorite is SECRETS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding and I can't believe it!, July 24, 2003
This review is from: Secrets (Audio CD)
Before a couple of years I was driving my car and listening to an easy listening radio ... sudenly while I am driving that song started I was amazed and shocked for what I did hear that song was "On my mind" and with out a doubt it stayed on my mind until I did found who composed it and finally I have found who created it " Brian Culbertson " is who did it and with no doubt he deserves every star I rated for him.
