I LOVE food! I am a person who is thinking about my next meal while I'm eating the one that sits in front of me. I can't tell you how many diets I have tried over the last 15 years. I picked up Maria's books after I came across her blog in late December. I started reading Weight, Cravings and Mood. Everything that Maria talked about seemed like it was very easy to incorporate into my life. Later I purchased her Secrets to a Healthy Metabolism and her cookbooks. Over the years, I had read about low carb, no grain eating, but thought how could I possibly do that? I wouldn't have anything to eat. WELL, Ms Maria has proved me WRONG!!

Here are the reasons I recommend purchasing her books and making a lifestyle change. They are easy to read and so worth it!!

1) FOOD CRAVINGS GONE:
I am down 10.2 pounds in the first 3 weeks of starting to implement changes. The BEST part is that I'm not hungry! The cravings are gone. I can honestly say this is the first time in my life I haven't been starving while "dieting." I have done Weight Watchers, counted calories, high protein diets, etc, etc. Restrictions would be manageable all day, but by 6 p.m., I wanted to eat anything and everything in sight. I would even wake up in the middle of the night to eat.

2) So MUCH VARIETY:
Bacon, steaks, chicken and cheese. That's all I can think of growing up in a household with a low-carb dieter. My step-father would eat low-carb for a few weeks or a month and get so sick of just eating meat and cheese, he couldn't stand it anymore. Maria has amazing recipes in her books that make you feel like you are not missing out on wheat and/or carbs. My picky 7 year old daughter will eat most anything I have made so far.

Maria Emmerich has become my favorite writer & resource for understanding my body and what I need to do in order to make healthy changes. I was able to instantly relate to Maria because she has a personal story like so many of us and yet she did something about it and became passionate about health and nutrition and is now paying it back with her books. Thank you Maria! I refer to all her books and website on a regular basis. Because of Maria's book alone I have, with the help from my doctor, been taken off all my Rx meds (a small suitcase full) and am living a more balanced life physically and mentally and enjoy the foods I eat because I am getting well. I have suggested Maria's books to dozens of friends who have also found the information to be of great value. I won't loan my books out because I can't part with them too long!

I have read all of Emmerich's booksSecrets to a Healthy MetabolismSecret Weight Loss RecipesMaximize Your Health,and, honestly, the books have changed my life. Emmerich has taught me the important science of nutrition: I believe that this is a very complicated subject, explained clearly by the author, so that a non-science person like me can understand the concepts of proper eating. Now when I choose food, I understand how my body will be affected. I really appreciate learning the effects of right eating on our brain chemistry, and, that I can feel better emotionally, just based on what "I am putting into my mouth". I also feel better physically. I am sure that I could hike mountains for a day without fatigue, with the help of Emmerich's recipes. Emmerich writes with knowledge of her subject, and, a sense of humor, and, wonderful recipes---I only hope that she continues to author more books of this same venue so that my awareness becomes even more heightened.

Loved, loved, loved this book. It is a mind opening read. The first time I scanned the pages I didn't actually believe most of what I was reading, it was just so new to me. There is nothing but science to back all her information up and that's why I couldn't ignore what she had to say; I had to read every word of this book. It's fascinating to learn about how hormones really affect weight loss and health. After reading Secrets to Controlling Your Weight, Cravings and Mood I discovered that I don't have the dopamine levels I want to. Hence, the don't even talk to me until I've had coffee, attitude. She really explains in clear, easy to understand detail, why we need to eat real food!
I think of Maria almost DAILY, because she has written that eating a diet of Yoplait & Lean Cuisines starves our bodies on the cellular level. Eating fat-free, light and process foods do more harm than good. Again, this is a must read.

I just finished reading this book and had already begun implementing some of the dietery changes she writes about in her book. I am seeing nothing but positive results, both in my physical health and cognitive health. I have been working with my local naturpath and she recommended this book. I have also read "The Mood Cure", by Julia Ross. I read that first. I found that Marie's book further expounds and dove tails the concepts about diet and nutritional supplements listed in, "The Mood Cure". I found both books extremely beneficial. In fact, I am ordering them for some family and friends who suffer from mental difficulties and/or physical ailments such as diabetes, hashimoto's thyroiditis, migraines, pms and other physical maladies.

My personal reasons for reading this book was to continue to seek nutritional answers for my suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, and from time to time depression.
I have been using prescriptions medications for this for 10 yrs and through the last six months of applying these nutritional changes as well as the supplements I have completely stopped the use of one med and have reduced the use of the second med from 150mg per day to 50 mg per day, I still hold the goal that as I heal my gut and overall general health, that I will eventually be able to not use any prescriptions medications whatsoever. I have done all of this with the overview of my doctors. Which I recommend. Though, I find that most are resistant at first to the naturalpathic methods I am seeing that as my overall health increases it serves as a testimony to them and will hopefully spur them on to do their own research and pass that on to other patients.
