Although the word secrets seems to promise much, Nisbett does not reveal exactly what elusive quality distinguishes these 30 artisans' works from dozens or hundreds of others. In the world of miniatures as art, those revelations may be too private to share. She does, however, get at the how-tos, techniques, and tools preferred by these British artists, and she also interviews each one about employment background. Not surprisingly, fewer than half of those profiled chose this as their initial occupation; many, involved with art since youth, selected miniature manufacturing as a postretirement career. This book is truely a gem. The photos are stunning. This book will tell you step-by-step how some of the worlds most beautiful miniatures are made. This book should be owned by all miniature enthusists. Mrs. Nisbett has selected some of the BEST miniature artists in England, it tells all about them and their wonderful masterpieces. This book will inspire all craftsmen. This book will tell you all about there techniques, what materials they use and how the use them to accieve these masterworks.

The Secrets of the Dolls' House makers is a great book that would be enjoyed by anyone who has been bitten by the miniature bug, houses, accessories or furnishings. The photos are great and the items shown are top quality (far better than anything I could do). I recommend it to anyone who loves miniatures as much as I do.
