Format: Hardcover
Shaun Brodison's book 'Secrets to effective weight Loss' is an excellent volume to adopt as a weight loss bible. The book is well thought out and it is obvious that a lot of planning has gone into its layout in order to make this book exceptional as a guide. Its easy to understand language and well presented format sets it apart as a workbook. Brodison attacks the problems associated with weight loss programs by first dispelling the many myths that abound surrounding this topic. He then continues to explain how the body works to use fat as an energy source and reinforces what he has just explained with fitness tips following each topic mentioned. The use of tables to provide easy reference to such things as exercise regimens or muscle training exercises is consistent with his illustrative style. He talks about the three main body types those being Ectomorphs, Endomorphs and Mesomorphs and goes on to discuss how we should be making exercise a priority in our lives. After giving examples how to incorporate exercise seamlessly into our daily routine Brodison then introduces the topic of nutrition as the other key element to effective weight loss. Good nutrition is an essential part of weight loss and Brodison goes into detail to explain the complexities of the Glycaemic index of foodstuffs.

Measuring weight loss is similarly revealed with the same logical approach whether it be through girth measurements or the other measurements mentioned by Brodison, he continues to reveal the logic and sound reasoning supporting it. He also does not forget that weight loss is affected by many common medical conditions, each is mentioned in turn and solutions to their specific problems are discussed.

I have had trouble losing weight for many years. The constant dieting and fad exercise equipment have not worked and left me feeling like a failure (with a larger waistline!). I finally found a reference that was easy to read and written in a way that was easy to understand. I read 'Secrets to effective weight loss' by Shaun Brodison over one weekend and found myself to be motivated to exercise and increase daily incidental activity (i.e. increasing the amount of physical movement during the day such as walking to the shops insead of driving my car, etc.). This book has many photos that visually show the exercises so I started to exercise immediately. I really liked the photos and the fact that the model looked like a fit and healthy person rather than someone who looked false with plastic surgery. I also immediately implemented the 12 week program that has has worked wonders - i feel fitter and healthier than ever before.

I would like to thank Mr. Brodison for the fantastic book that he has written and the difference that it has made in my life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and believe it to be an essential tool in the commencement of any weight loss program!

I find it very hard to get to the gym and exercise (probably like so many others). This book offered a program where I could workout at home. I set up my home gym for under $100, and the exercises I use keep me interested in my workouts.

I found I have been losing about 4 pounds a week, but the real difference is in my clothes. I am now fitting into clothes that I have not worn for years. I seem to be toning up all over and feel so much more confident.

The nutrition segment of the book has helped me to make better choices when I go shopping. I can now read food labels and determine whether a food is high in fat or not. The real nice thing is that others have looked to me and begun changing their habits.

The common myth buster section was also very interesting. I have been trying to lose weight of my stomach for years by performing crunches. This is not the best way as you cannot lose weight from a specific site, so I have concentrated more on walking and cycling and the tummy weight has started to disappear.

I would thoroughly recommend this book to the time poor person who cannot (or doesn't want to) join a gym.

I have read many books on the topic of weight loss but none seem to be as holistic as this one. The author not only describes what you should do, but outlines why you should be doing it. Real life examples are used to show how weight loss can be incorporated into daily living. One example in the chapter on nutrition shows how drinking 1 to 2 glasses of wine or beer every night can add up over the week to be the equivalent of an extra days worth of eating! While this wont stop me drinking, it will make me think twice about having a drink every night.

The instruction points and photographs helped me a lot when I started training in my home gym. I was able to perform the exercises confidently knowing I was doing them properly. It was like having a personal trainer for the price of a book! For someone not confident in going to the gym this has helped me learn a number of new exercises.

The book is not a magic cure to weight loss, but it does show how to change your lifestyle, diet and exercise to lose weight steadily. From what I have learned this is probably better anyway.
