Excellent Resource Information,
By Halina (Overland Park, Kansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secrets of Evening Primrose Oil (Our Secrets Of...) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has a lot of excellent information about how diet can influence PMS, allergies, depression and a number of other disorders. It gives information about the little known essential fatty acid, GLA, and the "good" prostaglandins PGE1 which are found in Evening Primrose Oil. The book also outlines some nutrients/foods for different physical problems along with dosages and cautions. It also lists references for additional information. I highly recommend this book - and am buying several for friends and family.

Small but with lots of information!,
This review is from: Secrets of Evening Primrose Oil (Our Secrets Of...) (Mass Market Paperback)
I decided to read this book after reading Evening Primrose Oilwhich I didn't quite like. I find Secrets of Evening Primrose Oil comprehensive and full of very useful information. Much of the information you will find in other books but here you have it in condensed form which might appeal to some people. As I have been suffering from my allergies big time this year I have started to follow the instructions on this book and right now, after only two weeks, they are a lot better. As the author says it may take at least a month or longer for the full effect to take place. The good thing is that I am not suffering as much anymore and I am not taking any medication.
I do worry a bit about taking a lot of Omega-6 but as I have no other option for the moment I will have to go with this advice. I have to say that I don't agree with the author's ideas about saturated fats although I do agree with her that fats are very important for the health (I wonder where she would get her fats from other than the Evening Primrose Oil as she doesn't seem to agree with animal fats). She makes the distinction between Good and Bad Cholesterol although towards the end she demystifies the fats and cholesterol concepts. As far as I have read there isn't really good and bad Cholesterol at all, we need it all! The parts that interested me most were the chapters about allergies, hart, cancer, fats and cholesterol, chronic illnesses of the aging (where I am heading to....), skin and hair, but she also talks about alcoholism, PMS and mental illnesses. This book dates from 2000, so getting a bit old but still I felt that it is quite up to date. A tiny pocket book which as a format is quite outdated and, as I bought it second hand the pages are very yellow making it seem even older, but well worth reading! Maybe it would be a good idea for Monica Reinagel to write a new version? |
