Kristi Holl's first middle-grade novel was published by Atheneum (1983). To date, Kristi has sold 34 middle-grade books (29 fiction and 5 nonfiction) and Writer's First Aid, an adult book to help writers survive the writing life. (Eleven of her books are mysteries; her Haunting of Cabin 13 won the Maryland Children's Book Award.)
She loves being around other writers. Kristi is a frequent speaker at SCBWI conferences and taught at the Highlights Foundation Chautauqua writing workshop in 1998 and 2004. Kristi's Writer's First Aid blog has 40,000 subscribers. "I love keeping in touch with other writers this way," she says. "They encourage me every bit as much as I try to encourage them."
Kristi has three grown daughters and three perfect grandchildren. Iowa born and raised, Kristi moved to Texas in 2003 to be near her kids and grandkids. She and husband live in San Antonio. Can faith, courage, and the truth win out?,

Jeri McKane's best friend Rosa is being blackmailed. If the creep isn't paid, Rosa will be expelled from school. But that's not the worst of it, Rosa thinks Jeri is blackmailing her. After all, Rosa only told Jeri her big secret.Jeri sets out to find who the blackmailer is only to find others are now being blackmailed, including herself. Where did the blackmailer find cruel information about her father? Can Jeri stop the blackmailer from spreading hurtful information before reputations are ruined and Rosa gets expelled? I'm having fun with this series. I pretty much figured out who the culprit is in this story, but I still see-sawed a bit thinking:" Naw, couldn't be! Could it?" The scene when the blackmailer is caught is thrilling. All I have to say is: I'm now hooked on this series. I don't have book #3 Smokescreen and #4 Pick Your Poison, but I will look for them in my nearest book store. For anyone wanting a good read but needs a little break from full-length books, I recommend this series to satisfy your book craving without consuming too much time.

Intense Thriller for the Younger Set,

I've really been enjoying reading these Boarding School Mysteries. First off, the mysteries are not predictable, and the story lines are done really well. It's nice to see that even though the target audience is for a younger set, the author doesn't dumb down the plot and creates a good thrilling story. I really like Jeri's character and if I were at Landmark I would seek her out to be friends. In this story Jeri begins to reconcile with her father and build up their relationship again. The blackmailing done on Rosa is rather alarming at the trouble it causes. The threats are actually quite harsh. This book is actually quite intense as it involves adults putting students in perilous situations. I was actually really quite surprised by the ending as it was not who I had expected. It's actually pretty scary to be in that situation especially when it's someone that you trusted. I would recommend this book for at least upper middleschoolers due to the intensity of the situation. That being said, I really enjoyed this book and this series so far. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Hopefully one day, I'll be able to solve the mystery before the end of the book!
